2500 characters from Island :desert_island: plus a little from Loopers today. I read Loopers on Switch with minimal lookup (switch to English when I don’t understand something) and Island on PC with Textractor. One extensive reading and one intense reading. I’m glad that I have the tools to do both!

End of 1st week in August update:

Continuing to read one episode of 壁の穴 and one chapter of Human Japanese Intermediate.

Finally got an explanation I can understand about the differences between 使う and 用いる. From HJI, chapter 38: “The difference between tsukau and mochiiru is that tsukau is a little more conversational, whereas you’ll see mochiiru a lot more in compounds. Mochiiru is also a little more tool-oriented.”

Example sentences given:

Not much, just a couple of web pages about Amigurumi in japanese because I want to get into using japanese patterns(cute amigurumi is one reason I picked up crocheting)… I mined quite a bit of specific vocab though!

Blazed through the rest of chapter 16 and chapter 17 of orange! One specific page of ch.16 got me all teary eyed on the train…

I keep dozing off even with my eyes open, it’s like I’m still reading but nothing is entering my brain. So for it to enter my consciousness I have to read out loud so I don’t drift off to dreamland. It feels so stupid, it shouldn’t be like this. Maybe I should stop forcing myself to read and just go to sleep.

Sometimes I set out to read a bit, only to find some fresh bug in my novel reader app, get distracted and spend the next few hours tinkering with it. Today was such a day. I ended up squeezing in the last pages of Teasing-Master Takagisan to maintain my streak though!

  • I finished the first case of 逆転裁判! OK so it’s a tutorial case, but I hadn’t realised it was so short (it’s literally about two cross-examinations [尋問] and answering two or three multiple choice questions). Still, it feels really good. And again I’ve achieved an overarching goal early lol. Guess I’m going to just keep on keeping on and treat this as my non-club study project.
