Didn’t have much of a chance to read today, but hope to find some more time tomorrow

吉田博展 - 没後70年
Read up to page 125 - Despite his sketchbooks being full of animal sketches Yoshida didn’t do many animal prints. Neither did he do many prints with people in them - especially in his earlier works - with most prints with people in them they were mostly part of the backgrounds just passing through. But in those works that do feature closeups of people he would often use the likeness of his family members.

Artworks

上野公園 - 1938

The longer you look the more amazing details you find - like the intricate reflection in the puddles, he didn’t need to, but he did, and it brings so much depth.

きばたん おうむ - 1926

Cockatoo! One of his few animal prints - he seemed to like cockatoos as he did two other similar pictures.

梅之家 - 1935

The people are presumed to be based on his wife and sister and family.

藤之庭 - 1935

I love paintings that draw you in and fill you full of that feeling of wanting to exist inside of them.

I’m always amazed how so much can be expressed with the limited palettes, I love the look it gives.

I played a bit Soul Sacrifice Delta. While I have the game for PS Vita and a still working vita I prefer playing older games using an emulator. The game has lots of text to read every monster you fight in the game has a back story.

Big things are happening :head_shaking_vertically: Unfortunately, there will be yet another break next week

スライム倒して300年 (up to 21%)

I’ve been quite tired lately so haven’t read too much, but I’m making slow progress on the LN nonetheless :blue_heart:

Read one page of manga. A little tricky, but I finally figured it out. Good practice!

10 minutes reading done :white_check_mark:
Finally ploughed through the huge burn pile from ~L15. There’ll be a few more of those before it levels out. The Kakehashi app is awesome! Anki mode helps a lot. I think I possibly learn and retain more using full anki mode than typing in answers. Satori reader is great. Enjoying 壁の穴 even though the story begins with two baby mice being eaten :joy::scream: totally horrifying but maybe that’s normal in a Japanese story haha!

I finished up Not a Guy and started Koubutsu, hoping it would be an easy bl alternate to Yakumo for my pre-bed reading… It does not seem as easy as I had hoped. It’s easier than Yakumo though… Maybe I’ll finish vol 1 of Yakumo first then read this one before bed.

Finished the second chapter of 大正忌憚魔女. I’ve been really pleasantly surprised with this one. It has a very pleasant sense of humor without being overly zany or slapstick. A little bit deadpan, which I love. The narration is also interesting; in this chapter it uses parallel structure from a 3rd person perspective to add another layer of subtle humor. I’m not really sure how to describe the way the narration is here, but it feels cozy and comforting somehow. I think I’ve gotten used to manga with 1st person narration…

Here's a super minor spoiler that shows a cute lil' interaction

Off topic, but I made pizza from scratch this evening and it turned out pretty well.

When I switched to Anki mode, I found that I actually started to learn the multiple English definitions for each word. Plus reviews are faster! I still type the words in Japanese, but I do the english part flashcard style in Smouldering Durtles.

We must have similar taste. I love the Before The Coffee Gets Cold series and I can’t wait for the day I can read them in Japanese! Well done on finishing book 2
