Good reading session today! I’m excited to finish the novel but also pretty sad to be near the end since I’m enjoying it so much. I’ll definitely have to get hold of the next two volumes at a later date ![]()
Day 13
とんがり帽子のアトリエ - 12 pages read up to page 188!
Today’s episode was fantastic!
And happy to report that I had indeed read up enough to cover the whole episode.
I’m so close to the end of vol.1! Unfortunately probably won’t manage it tomorrow as I have a mahjong league match, so I’ll just do what I can.
I bought these books a couple of years ago and have been struggling with the willpower to read them since then.
Once I finish this one it will be my second ever manga volume read in Japanese (first was Frieren Vol.1 in February!). And no furigana for the first time! ![]()

| 米国自ら「海峡封鎖」、もろはの剣のリスク イランに譲歩させる狙い | 1900 |
| (天声人語)ピーナツコーラの妙味 | 600 |
Today, I finally made use of my Asahi Shinbun subscription for the first time this month
The first article was about the current ceasefire between the US and Iran and US’s plan to block the strait of Hormuz
I also read online that the 天声人語 daily opinion pieces in the newspaper are supposedly a really good JLPT-esque reading practice, so I think I wanna keep reading them regularly for now. They are pretty short from what I could tell! The piece from yesterday about peanuts cola first introduced the readers to a Southern US tradition that has become somewhat of a trend in Japan after X / Twitter has introduced automatic machine translations of tweets. The author ponders about the implications that this change on the website could have; while Twitter executives tout it as the start of a great cultural exchange, the author also wonders if the negative effects of social media may be exacerbated by this new feature, like people making judgements on (potentially mis)translated headlines they see on the website
Besides my newspaper reading, I have also started a new novel today: 推し、燃ゆ of which I have read 30% today. It is really captivating and I want to keep reading before I talk too much about it, but I can already say that as someone who is not into Oshi culture at all, it has already opened up some new perspective on some things I have seen and heard of when I lived in Japan
But I will write more about this in the future (though spoilers of the book will, of course, not be discussed outside of spoiler tags, don’t worry)

I don’t want to lose streak, so I’m doing tiny read. Highly considered not giving a care and just go to sleep. It late, what does it hurt if it’s a bit more late with a saved streak, right? So might as well do a tiny read just for the sake of it.

I absolutely hate it. The disconnect between having to click to translate (and thus preparing yourself that the other person may have a different mindset to you) and having it auto-translated is surprisingly large. It’s bad enough between English speaking countries…

A few more pages
Hey, I’m reading that very chapter right now! I have no idea why, but the fishing chapter is weirdly difficult compared to the rest of the chapters.
yeah i read that ages ago and even then i was surprised at the jump. Maybe because there’s a lot of fishing terminology, maybe because there’s a lot of adults talking amongst themselves

☆4月13日☆
Got an email from DHL this morning saying it’s projected to arrive tomorrow, so I’ve still got time! Possibly.
Read:
・6 chapters of ダイの大冒険
Hyunckel: The battle against Dark King Vearn is near…!!!
the manga: -still has over 11.5 volumes left-
Me: Hmm…
Played:
・ドラクエ・モンスターズ・ジョーカー (21:05 ⇒ 28:51)
Finished the third temple, and Magister has now transformed into a (baby) dragon, as predicted. But even though I’ve collected all 10 madurite, there’s still one temple left…
I haven’t actually made it to the temple itself yet, as I’ve bred all new monsters for my party (though not all at once), so I’ve been doing a lot of grinding so we can actually make it there without having to Zoom back to the G Pit to recover or else revive before I’ve made it halfway. This island is described as being like a maze, but honestly, the last one seemed more like one. So far, at least. Anyway, I’ve got no guesses as to what Magister’s next form might be.
Hmm, it seems there is actually a difficulty increase in scouting repeats, it’s just not nearly as much as I remember it being in 2
The naming screen that pops up after you attain a monster starts you off with the first two characters of the monster’s species name filled in, and over 9 times out of 10, I’ll just slap an appropriate name ender on there and call it a day. Except I don’t actually know the sex designation symbols and they’re not colour coded, so I have absolutely given monsters wrong-gender names because I’ve gotten them mixed up. So I guess they’re trans now.
The reward for ScoutQ task no. 9 is an エッチなほん. What the hell are you doing giving a 10-y.o. a dirty mag, huh, gramps?? (Granted, I don’t know how old exactly Joker is, but he’s definitely A Child.) Seems that if you use it, the next monster you fight is guaranteed to be male. Ohhhkay then.
There’s a monster in DQIX called a trigertaur which is tiger-horse centaur that wields a trident, and that was my first thought when I saw his name on the leaderboard. I guess I wasn’t too far off…?
Although now I’m wondering what the trigertaurs are called in JP. One of the IX guidebook volumes should have the bestiary, but I’ll look it up tomorrow
That was my experience reading it a few years ago, too

Busy busy day with work and packing and all kinds of stuff, but snuck in a bit of reading at the end of the day. Tomorrow I leave for a trip and I’ve got my books all loaded up on my tablet! Updates here might be shorter than usual since I’ll be on my phone, but I’m super excited for my trip!!
午后のあくび is such a gem and I just adore reading it.
