Today’s total is 97 pages! I didn’t get as much done as I wanted. However, I did finish book 5 of the challenge (and number 1 of this reading week), 赤と青とエスキース. The book came together in the final chapter and a bit in ways I couldn’t possibly imagine, and it’s the best book I’ve ever read in Japanese.
Finished Virtue’s Last Reward with a playtime of 56h 09m! I really liked it, and even though I ended being half-right about one of my hypotheses, I liked being wrong even more especially when it came to Akane and Junpei!! I actually had a half idea about Tenmyouji turning out to be Santa from Zero Escape… Anyway, definitely recommend the game to everyone who’s into mystery / thriller / puzzles. You should play Zero Escape first, though, because Virtue’s Last Reward spoils the end.
A much more enjoyable (and short) essay by Banana Yoshimoto for today’s essay. I also discovered the entire back half of the book is just notes on the essays, so the collection is actually even shorter than I thought.
Another chapter and a bit of 自称令嬢.
Two chapters of せっくすを誘い方. The first was pretty good but the second kinda moved away from the serious-ness into something a bit more comedic and lolrandom which I wasn’t quite as big a fan of, hopefully it swings back around.
I also got a Kindle Unlimited sub for two months for free from amazon as part of golden week (think it’s still around for one more day!) so I’m going to just check out vol 1s of a bunch of stuff on there I think for the next little while. Wonderful to be in a position to do that.
I started a new EN novel today to take the place of Hunter, and the writing style is. not the best. We’ll see if it’s bad enough to make me drop it, though.
Read:
・70 pages of 震える天秤, reading into ch 23 and leaving off on pg 256
Learned that ‘Nissan’ is spelled ‘日産’ (unsurprising)
Played:
・聖剣伝説3 Trials of Mana 体験版 (00:00⇒00:51)
Some sort of 異変 happened with my Switch’s screen/display while I was playing, so I found the nearest save spot and quit. I have no idea what to do, or how/why it happened. I’m hoping I’ll still be able to play with it docked, but I may need to have it sent in for repairs… I do 99% of my playing in handheld mode. (Will they even still do that though, with the 2 right around the corner?)
I feel I can pick out quite a few of the kanji/kana, bar those that go into too much squiggle, though trying to make sense of it is something else entirely.
May 6th
A few pages of Silver Spoon today for the IMC club. It’s fun to read a harder manga, and even more fun when I recognize kanji from WK and guess what it means! 馬券 - horse ticket - horse betting ticket.
Some more pages of the 猫消えたなら本!Thought I would read way more on this trip but somehow there is always something else to do, but steady progress non the less
Ah, I forgot to update when I finished it, but a week or so ago I read ドラえもん volume 1!
And today I finished Yotsuba volume 11 I LOVE YOTSUBA SO MUCH, it is healing to my soul whenever I read a volume haha. So I’ve been trying to read through the volumes very slowwwlyy, to make them last longer!!
Another essay, a rather funny one on how sentence endings can change the tone of an essay but can’t fundamentally save a douchebag writer from coming off as a douchebag writer (not in those terms)
Chapter of 自称悪役令嬢 and the omake to finish off the chapter. Thank god for the markedly easier omake because the main chapter was quite tricky to decipher.
I accidentally an entire volume of 好きな子がメガネを忘れた (the last one available on Kindle Unlimited). A very cute read and another on my list of ‘grab this whole thing if it’s ever cheap’ (which I feel like it won’t be, but eh)
