4000 characters from Island today, plus a little from different books and manga. I find it difficult to concentrate when I read books and manga, but this VN is a different story. I’m so glad that I found this VN, and this challenge, and started reading!
Puttering along with 焼いてる二人6. I’m not sure I’m going to bother memorising the difference between 強力粉、薄力粉 and 打ち粉 (they made pizza) but I can kind of guess just looking at the kanji so whatever.
Well - as can be seen from the stats, things fell apart about 5 days ago!
I did continue to read, but very small amounts and I can’t concentrate. Main issue is I’m going away later this week and have a lot to do. Work itself hasn’t been too bad but I’m trying to write 3 different rosters without adequate staff and it’s not working out!
Packing side of things isn’t too bad as I chucked all my dive gear from the last trip in the spare room so I just need to add clothes…
I’m just allowing myself to fall apart behind at this point and hoping I can catch up while on holiday.
June 21st!
I basically spent the entire day on various planes so not ideal reading conditions, so I started Tamamo no Koi (the current ABBC pick) since that seemed like something I could probably handle without an internet connection for lookups. There were a few unfamiliar words that I had to skim over, but nothing that stopped me from comprehending what was going on
June 22nd!
Chapter 6 of Frieren today. Just one chapter left in this volume now, so I might finish it over the next few days instead of waiting until next week with the BBC. Only having one chapter left always tempts me to read ahead
Do you have an offline dictionary? I battled without one for ages before getting an app called imiwa. Which I think is free. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty good, to the point I often use it when I have internet access too.
I’m a bit sad at myself for not keeping better records. I know I read more days than this and often spread out my JoJo reading across days. What’s done is done though. At least for my bigger picture tracking, it would have been averaged out anyway.
Thanks to the 24h Solstice Reading Challenge, I read a lot. I went from 5:05pm-5:05pm. The other readings I plan to count for June 24th. I feel really motivated to start reading more again. Idk how much I’ll be able to commit with my other projects, but I plan to at least keep up with JoJo and Witch Hat. I’ll see about adding Fudanshi Fam back into the mix too.
As for specific readings from yesterday, 海のそこ was great. Almost ideal one-shot for me. Not a Guy was good too, although I wish it’d be less slow slow burn. Frieren I was really surprised by, but I think I exceptionally dislike it as a manga. The pacing is awful. Slow moments get 1 panel instead of being more visually represented with multiple panels. It’s more like a slideshow than a manga. All the choices made for panel composition are overly safe. Before you go, “Berry, it’s supposed to be understated and boring.” Nah… box box box box box box. That’s just not creative. Compare Frieren and Mushishi. Similar atmosphere anime. Totally different manga. Mushishi has wonderful paneling that’s not limited to box box box box. I’ll stick to being anime only with Frieren. The pacing there is just so much better.
Started a new children’s book (though it’s classified as a LN?), カタログ. At first glance I would put it up there with 不思議駄菓子屋 and not just because it is also about people finding weird bullshit that is probably going to fuck up their life somehow. Loads and loads of vocab I don’t know…
結 = one of my nemesis… the 3 compound words taught in level 17 make no sense to me:
bind + fruit == ‘result’ , probably closest to your example?
perfect + bind == ‘conclusion’
bind + bureau == ‘after all’ ?!
I somehow managed to tame the first two after twisting my brain with various mnemonics of my own, but the last one is .
