today wasn’t very productive, skimmed my way through some kinda questionable BL on cmoa and some youtube where i mostly focused on the subtitles rather than listening and that’s about it. back to ガリレオ next week

Words of the day

• うつらうつら(.) = (on-mim) being drowsy . Compare うとうと, とろとろ and こっくりこっくり
• 半値(はんね) = half-price. Compare 半額(はんがく).
• 宏壮(こうそう) = imposing and gigantic, e.g. of a building
• 上弦(じょうげん) = waxing half-moon; first quarter of the moon . Waning half / last quarter is 下弦(かげん) , see the diagram.
• 二人羽織(ににんばおり) = Nininbaori - Wikipedia, a Japanese comedic party trick where two people wear the same 羽織(はおり) and pretend to be one hunchbacked person. There are other words with ににん, like 二人称(ににんしょう),   二人組(ににんぐみ) and 二人三脚(ににんさんきゃく).
• キテレツ = odd; bizarre; very strange. The Kanji form in the IME is 奇天烈(きてれつ). Compared with 熾烈(しれつ) in context (but not so ).
• 師弟(してい) = teacher and student, 師匠(ししょう) and 弟子(でし). Well, the 弟(おとうと) part is more commonly ダイ because of 兄弟(きょうだい). (And exceptions like 従兄弟(いとこ).)
• 蠱惑的(こわくてき) = alluring; coquettish. First Kanji also used in 蠱毒(こどく). It’s just lots of insects on a bowl. (Though 虫(むし) can also be written 蟲(むし).)
• 相場(そうば)が決(き)まっている = to be taken for granted. Say, the market price, the resulting reputation, says it has to be so, rather than something else.

Managed to catch up with all my manga! I’m slowly catching up on the books. I think with diving I might slow down a bit. Diving got delayed (and is now in a completely different place due to flight cancellations, but hey, that’s pacific islands for you).

4000 characters from the VN Island today. About 10 pages in a normal book. I’m not able to read 10 pages in a normal book yet, but reading one sentence at a time in a VN is OK.

If I read everything in the VN, it’s about 650.000 characters. At 400 characters in a normal book, that’s about 1.600 pages. Would I pick up a book with over 1.600 pages in Japanese now? At Wanikani level 9, around N5? No way, that’s insane. But reading 650.000 characters in a VN, one sentence at a time? No problem! Just give me a few months!

Tried the Tomozaki-kun audiobook, wasn’t really feeling it though. Not sure if I will be again haha. Trying to get into Japanese audiobooks, any recommendations??
