No, I haven’t fallen off! Except for the 24th, I’ve read something every day even if it was just flipping through my new manga. I haven’t completed a manga volume in a while, so I need to step it up! Even though I’ve reached my goal for the year, I still have a giant backlog which isn’t going to read itself.

Today’s reading were just some Bunpro practice passages and whatever reviews it threw at me. Spent most of today’s studying time focusing on output and reviewing old grammar points. (Typing katakana will be the bane of my existence…)

Love the atmosphere of this story. It’s a genius way of teaching us more about certain Japanese cultural things. And those drums 
more new vocab from known kanji. So cool.

In the middle of a very text dense passage of 裏世界ピクニック. Also features a lot of loan words and military-related words that I’m quite unfamiliar with, but hanging in there. I’m particularly pleased because I don’t feel like I’m getting brain foggy or frustrated while reading this, which is a definite change from only a few months ago. Things are just making more sense, I guess!
Anyhow, should have some more time to read tomorrow, I think.

Final chapter = complete!
This one was rather bizarre, the story is pretty straight-forward but there’s lots of weird imagery in it that is never really explained.
There’s a little note at the end - this story is actually a collaborative effort, with the first chapter being written by Ranpo, the second by 香山 滋 (Kayama Shigeru) and the final chapter written by 鷲尾 三郎 (Washio Saburou). It was released in a detective story magazine in the 1950s.
Also learnt from this that a human billboard (wearing a promotional board on their front and back walking around town trying to sell whatever product) are called a サンドイッチ・マン. I like that the human is the sandwich filling.
Will start on the Lovecraft tomorrow!
Busy days
On Line Manga, The Driver and CEO story got removed from my incentivized works, and Unromantic was added, so I started reading it. It’s a translated Korean webcomic and it’s interesting to see how some things just don’t translate culturally like certain behaviors and mindsets. It’s a difficult but fun read so far. Unless it ramps up later though, I can’t imagine spending coins on it once I finish the free chapters
I finished volume 1 of Chii! It was cute and I’m looking forward to continuing it as my easy nightly read.
I’ll work on book club books again eventually… Line Manga’s business model really does keep me coming back

It feels crazy to see how much progress I’ve made with reading in the past 5 months or so.
When the book club started, I was completely new to reading and struggled a lot with parsing sentences and recalling words I already knew.
Now, よつばと feels so much easier (especially compared to the other books I’ve now read) and I can really see how much my overall comprehension and enjoyment has improved

夏を迎えても、雛見沢の朝の空気は切るように冷たい。
その代わり、肺の底まで存分に吸いこめるくらい澄んでいた。
窓をがらりと開ければそこは一面の緑。
木々以外何もない。

もう一度大きく吸いこんで、肺いっぱいに満たしてみる。
空気にも味があることを、この雛見沢に来て初めて知った。
手早く登校の準備を済ませ、朝食のために階下へ降りる。
お袋のみで親父の姿はなかった。
おそらく、朝方まで仕事に精を出していたのだろう。
親父は画家などという風変わりな職業をやっている。
これが何とも呑気な商売なのだ。
好きな時に起き、好きな時に寝、好きな時に仕事をしている。
その気楽さがうらやましくて小学校の時、将来なりたい職業に画家と書いたら父は大層喜んだ。
…もちろんラクそうだったから、なんてのは内緒だが。

I did read every day though!
I’ve reached the end of volume 1 of おかえりアリス and decided to drop it, because it was just horrible. I don’t mind reading about challenging topics, but it was just too unpleasant and had some really harmful stereotypes that I just don’t want to engage with.
Trying 夢色パティシエール next, which looks like it has far less potential for being problematic since its mostly about cake.

i7 can be very dark and (melo)dramatic at times but it can also be absolutely hilarious and i love how the side stories can be utter chaos. 斉藤壮馬 saying っらっしゃい！ in a stereotypical 寿司屋 voice and with full commitment to the bit really cracked me up. stupid in the best possible way.
hell girl seems to have gone with ‘children being neglected/otherwise mistreated by adults so they take it upon themselves to fix it and eternally suffer for it’ as its thesis statement but is doing absolutely nothing interesting with it. not yet anyway, but i’ve not got high hopes for that to change
Yes, the excitement in Satori’s 三途の川 did indeed start in chapter 6 and by chapter 10, it’s fitting the Hallowe’en season. I wonder what will happen next.

New kanji, new vocab, new readings, new meanings. I appreciate it when a kanji I have had trouble with in wk gets instantly memorised through seeing it in context. This chapter felt hard, but I got through it. Have to remind myself that I’ve come a long way to even be able to read this level of writing!

Went back and got through about a quarter of ハッピー・ラブリー・エブリデイ！ chapter 4 after accidentally skipping it yesterday. Did some bunpro readings and I guess the subtitles on whatever Japanese vlog I was listening to also counts
