Forgot to charge my tablet before work today, so just read my zombie yuri light novel on my phone at lunch instead of my planned manga. Got into a really excellent flow state, which I’m super happy about! Also did read some 裏世界ピクニック this evening as well. Still working through the text dense section, but starting to get there.
Any advice on how to get a more curated selection on the app? Everything the app presents to me is… not what I’m interested in, heh. I figure if I add enough GL it might start recommending stuff, but idk. Or are you just searching for things you know of from elsewhere?
Read about 1/8 - these sentences are so long and winding. So far the Japanese does well to keep that gothic vibe going (even if some of these kanji choices are difficult). Listening to Castlevania music while I read too for MAXIMUM HALLOWEEN
I’ve been in a really big manga mode these past two weeks. I really enjoy reading a lot of different series at the same time lol.
I’m slowly making progress on the Tsubasa/xxxHolic universe, with the whole thing being nearly 50 volumes it’s going to take me a while. I’m not really enjoying Wish too much, but I’m going to keep reading it because I want to see how it connects to Kobato. 紡ぐ乙女と大正の月 was interesting, I liked the different setting. It did lean a bit too much into romance for me but I think I’ll still pick up volume 2 at some point, I like that the series only has 4 volumes.
In the last few days I picked up another novel called アリス殺し and my initial thought is who thought this book was a good idea. I keep rolling my eyes the same way you do when you watch looney toons lol. I’ve been reading a chapter and then listening to the audiobook right after and it’s really helping with my comprehension. It’s definitely the hardest thing I’ve read yet with the way the characters go on about absolute nonsense sometimes.
After however many months, BL is finally showing up in the blue points recs (at a rate of 1 per set).
The おすすめ pages are total crap for the most part, but finding something you like and then checking out the recommendations at the end of the chapter has been what works for me. The さらに表示 will also give you 6 more recommendations. The tagging system is so rudimental that I imagine that the end of chapter recommendations likely compare your bookmarked or read lists to other users’ or more simply what a lot of users who have also read that work/chapter also read/saved.
The main thing that keeps me coming back is that the free in-app coins are earned by reading and probably 95% of what they throw at me, doesn’t interest me, but I keep doing it because it’s a reliable way to get the coins and about 90% of the chapters of the works I do like are free, but I’ll have to pay for the last chapters. Only being able to read 1-5 chapters of a single work I like a day means I stay in the ecosystem, even if it’s only a short daily visit.
tbf, it’s probably more like JoJo Part 3 copium/alt universe than most of their original stuff
I read another 4 chapters in Satori’s 三途の川. These stories are so well written!
I read German and English quite quickly, Does that make my reading experience superficial?
Reading Japanese is quite slow and difficult. In this story and the last, I found myself tearing up at times. Is this the result of my slow speed and struggle to understand, or is this writing so much better? (Or just more sentimental?)

Daily reading done
This story is going places by the minute! The vocab is getting harder too but not the grammar. More lookups needed than usual which means I’m learning more
When I note the page numbers I’ve noticed that I always think I’m reading way more than I actually am. I suppose what I’m actually doing is reading a small amount but really spending the time to make sure I understand it, so I end up being reeeally slow haha! I don’t mind it though, the last couple of weeks I’ve felt a noticeable improvement with my reading and it’s made me feel quite happy I guess that tortoise really did know what he was talking about.
finished hell girl, it was just kind of fine. i might check out the anime (i think there’s differences?) but i’m not in a hurry to. the gag 4koma at the end were pretty funny tho. i7 4th anniversary story ending was really rushed which is a shame.
Managed to make some progress despite traveling overseas at the moment. Service is a bit slow in certain restaurants so that gives me some time to read xD
Busy days continue… I’ve got friends from multiple countries visiting, which is nice, but November is shaping up to be a scheduling nightmare. I’m so glad I can see so many of them and do so much with them though!!
Read this week and next week for Mushishi. Started the 2nd book of Chii. Continuing Unromantic, which dropped some unexpected bombshells lol. It’ll either get interesting or boring soon lol
