shorter general read today cos i did the practice listening test at the end of the skm book. went okay, the hard part is staying focused for the full time  and it was only 50 mins! i think i’m over the hump in steins;gate, i can get through more text more easily in the time i have. then again i think there’s a big technical bit coming up so i might be about to eat my words…

today’s article was this one (idk i wanted smth short)

I played more 英雄伝説 碧の軌跡. For a chance some main story progress. We fought our way through Geofront and reached the door, but didn’t open it yet. What will await us there?

Mock grammar tests, 1h14m

This time it was much better, 14/20 and 10/20.
There are some questions where I could definitely answer correctly, and there are some grammar points that are still a bit vague in my head.

Slightly less tired today but still not as much reading as I wanted
Have had a couple very good reading weeks though, so taking it a bit easier for a bit is fine

Read:
・44 pages of 逆転裁判, leaving off on pg 209

逆転裁判

Oof, so it wasn’t just so that it could be the nice, round number of 15 years between the sections that the first was set in 2001—it ends with Shin and Reiji stepping onto the courthouse elevator on Dec 28th.

(Yeah, I don’t know the timeline of these games, which might have been clear by my not automatically knowing Shin would be the attorney when I saw the first section was set in 2001. I knew he died in December, but not what year. And I didn’t know Ryuuichi started his firm in 2016. The original games are from the early aughts, so I’d expected them to be set then, too. Thus, I didn’t know the significance of those two years.)

Turns out there is actual time travel in this! Yuuko disappeared from her holding cell the night of the 27th, and the way Karuma was all snidely like, “Well maybe the accused used a time machine to go into the future,” I thought he’d had her whisked out of there and killed. An inconclusive trial being deferred indefinitely due to the defendant no-showing may not be a win, but it’s certainly no loss, either. More than anything, he cannot have a loss on his precious perfect record. But nope! She did actually time travel, although not purposely. In fact, she didn’t even know she did it until Ryuuichi showed her a recent newspaper, much less how she got out or wound up in the place where she woke up.

Although while she was at the office, she received a phone call from Kyousuke. Didn’t he not actually time travel from 2016? When Kouta and Erika were shown a picture of the deceased, they were like, “Yeah, I know him, that’s Aoyagi Kyousuke,” not “Well, that kind of looks like Aoyagi Kyousuke but older.” And when Shin was looking into Kyousuke’s background and finding family members to ask about him, he never turned up the Kyousuke from 2001. Kyousuke and Kouta are about the same age… and the man who died was the same age Kyousuke would have been in 2001.

Did Madoy not have him seem too old in order to make it seem like there is no time travel going on, or what? Well, I suppose we’ll see. It’s still early yet. Ryuu still doesn’t know that Kitamita Kouta isn’t actually the man whom Yuuko called “Hakase,” much less that Lab Kitamita and Kitamita Research Center aren’t the same place.

Kyousuke had told Yuuko that “his wife” had died of an accident four years before, in 2012, and then he later learned that his rival had actually had a hand in her death. In 2016, we learn that Erika and her father died when their boat capsized three years before, in 2013. Did she jump not forward in her own timeline but into a parallel one? (Assuming Kyousuke did actually time travel, and for whatever reason no one ever mentioned the disparity in his age and Shin didn’t come across 2001-Kyousuke. Or, same assumption, did Kyousuke jump back into a parallel timeline—perhaps one created by his time travelling backwards—and Yuuko simply travelled forward?) Was the person who called her not actually Kyousuke, and he had predicted based on how he treated her that Kouta would one day murder Erika and actually was more or less right about when that would be?

Well, guess we’ll see.

But poor Yuuko. She winds up unconscious in a locked room with the dead Kyousuke and promptly arrested on suspicion of his murder in 2001, and then like 24 hrs after she jumps forward into 2016, she winds up unconscious in a locked room with the dead Unno Kuroudo (one of the vendors whom Kitamita does business with) and promptly arrested on suspicion of his murder. She really has no luck.

I wonder if it’ll be Karuma prosecuting her again, or Reiji. Probably Reiji, right? (Oh, man, first she gets represented by the elder Mitsurugi, then prosecuted by the younger?)

I played 英雄伝説 碧の軌跡. Like expected opening the door lead us into a trap and we had to play and win this strange mini game to survive. We got saved by ティオ who is finally back. Now our party is complete. Now it’s time to get prepared for the Trade Conference, trying to foil any assassination attempts once it starts.

Read about 2/3s of the way into chapter two.

Also learnt that 醒める is another way of writing 覚める.

And new word!
凝灰岩 (ぎょうかいがん) meaning tuff, as in a geological sense, the rock type, tuff rock.
