A chapter of 鋼の錬金術師 - I’m behind in this club, but I’m going to work on catchin up over the next week (This was Chapter 1 of Volume 3 - The club is reading Chapter 3 this week)

8 pages of 鋼の錬金術師 today - I was falling asleep at my desk while trying to read.
I tried switching to the Orange Light Novel since thats easier for me to read, but I was still falling asleep. I read a page, but I’ll probably need to read it again tbh because I already don’t remember what happened.
two more chapters of 3月のライオン vol 8! this bit was one of my favourite bits of the anime so it’s nice to go over it again. maths made its first appearance in suspect x, but thankfully only briefly
today’s nhk article was this one (remembering a volcanic eruption) plus the entries on のなんのって and の無さ in aDoAJG
coming back to say i finished revenant gun and have mixed feelings.

i don’t think the plot or characters ever really recovered from the nine year time skip from the previous book, and as a result the emotional resolutions didn’t land the way i think they were supposed to. ninefox gambit was fantastic, and raven stratagem worked pretty well once it got going, but i’m struggling to come up with a saving grace for this one that the previous books didn’t already have. it introduces several things that go nowhere too, and withholds information about the final confrontation as if for some later reveal that just, doesn’t happen.
i want to like it. the characters are interesting, and there’s clear care put into establishing a world that feels lived in by several cultures (each with internal variety) and that has history which actively affects the characters lives. and the queerness! it’s normalised without losing significance and meaning for those characters who are queer (tho i would argue it falls down a bit in places? there’s enough going on i can forgive it).
but this book felt confused and underdeveloped. (i do still very much recommend ninefox gambit though, even on its own)
Worked overtime, took a walk, did grocery shopping, (getting used to new glasses), watched part of Kuzuha lol stream, tested new glasses + headset = deadly ear combo (my ears are going to fall off one of these days). Then read a bit :3
I like how one of the characters were like, "that situation looked like this and that and it was not great, very scandalous I’m telling you! ", and I’m like "I know right! I loved every piece of it "
two more chapters of 3月のライオン and a good chunk of suspect x. had to look up some maths things, reached ‘non-trivial zero’ and immediately noped out again my new english book is gonna be men at arms by terry pratchett i think.
Ni No Kuni today, as I finished out a bunch of side quests. Unlike the listening side of it, side quests are still basically full value for the reading part.
Also I realised just how much stuff was in magic master, I had sort of expected it just to be a compendium of spells so I hadn’t looked in there but there seems to be a bunch of location background info too, so might take a look there next time.
