I’ve had some busy and long days, so not much done apart from trying to go at a daily pace for あん (I’m still delayed with looking up vocabulary, though). I also started the 1st volume of D.Gray-Man, which I got as a physical book, and read to up to page ~20, but I don’t even remember for sure which day I did that. Tomorrow I’m also busy, but I’m only 3 pages away from finishing this week’s reading of あん. On Friday I’m planning to catch-up on all the missing vocabulary and some more grammar.

• Satori Reader - Closeup: After the Tokyo Subway Attack: This series is a bit tough. Compared to slice of life manga, very long sentences, a lot of unknown vocabulary, I don’t understand much without the translations. But oh well, almost done with it, hopefully my next pick will be better for my reading skills. Interesting to read about the event at least, didn’t hear about it before (was too young when it happened)

Once again proving that I’m better at reading every day than writing an update every day lol.

July 18

Slow day today since I taught five classes and by the time I was done I just wanted to sleep for a year. Read 2 pages of 龍ヶ嬢七々々の埋蔵金 (18→20), and just for fun, read through the majority of the new edition of ポケモンファン magazine that I bought for the enclosed button lol. Also bought the first volume of わたしの幸せな結婚, because I have no impulse control when it comes to books, so that’s being added to the list as well.

July 19

Did a little better today, despite having a long, long meeting after work.
Another 4 pages of 龍ヶ嬢七々々の埋蔵金 (20→24) and I’m just waiting for the characters I actually like to show up main character continues to be terrible but he is a teenage boy so I give him some slack there. Also just endlessly laughing at the landlord being like “Ah, yes, your room! With a washer and dryer included! And, uh, various other things that definitely do not include ghosts!”

今日も「D.N.Angel」を読みました。

One sentence I would like some help with:

「話しかけにくくて同じクラスでもほとんど話した事なかったけど…」
I don’t know what to make of this 「かけにくくて」. It’s just beyond me on where to start. I know everything else.

話しかける is “to initiate speaking to” > 話しかけにくい is the ます-stem + the suffix にくい which means “hard/difficult to [verb]” > conjugate into the て form like a normal い-adj., getting 話しかけにくくて “difficult to talk to and…”

Oh wow. Ok, load em up. I know にくい. Just didn’t pick it out in て-form. Know to look for that now.

Is that verb stem + 掛ける > to initiate doing? Or does this only apply with 話す for some reason?

It looks like かける is used as a suffix that way, though 話しかける is possibly the most common way you’ll see it, or at least one of them (I can’t remember off the top of my head if I’ve seen it used that way with other verbs, though I feel I probably have…)

Had a good amount of time today to read:

• スキップとローファー 3, chapter 16. The summer vibes of this chapter felt perfect for today! I’m debating whether or not I want to slow down my reading of this series to stay in pace with the seasons. But the next volume seems to take place in the fall, so that might be too long of a wait
• よつばと 13, chapter 84
• スキップ・ビート! 3, 10 pages from chapter 12. When I first started reading this series, it felt so difficult. But after taking long breaks from it and coming back, it feels so much more manageable now, which makes me happy (also, kinda funny that I’m reading two series whose titles start with “Skip”)

2.43 next4years is coming out in September!! It seems it’s getting split into two volumes even though they’re 単行本? Part 1 in Sept and part 2 in Oct. Oh well, I’m excited, I can’t wait. Less than 2 months!!

Although the smart thing to do would be to wait for the next CDJapan coupon after ② comes out and get both at once, so that’s more like 3 or 4 months (no date for ② yet, just month). Well, not like I’ll be caught up in 2 months anyway at the rate I’m going. Unless I stop setting up to translate later on the first read. Though I do like translating as I go when I can…

• 33 pages of さいとう高校, finishing ch 13 and starting ch 14, leaving off on pg 203. (I’m very inconsistent about how I abbreviate this series name, but I got the last 2 volumes today and it seems according to the obi that this is the official one.)

Unfortunately, I missed a few days due to being incredibly busy. However, now I’m back and ready to continue the challenge! After reading a few more pages of スーパーの裏でヤニ吸うふたり, I have put it to the side for now. It is a challenging read for me at the moment, and I want to try coming back to it later. Now, I have purchased both volumes of ちいさな森のオオカミちゃん and finally feel I have found something at my level. It challenges me enough, but I also know most of each page that I don’t have to look up every other word. Besides, the first two pages, this has been a fairly simple read that I have really enjoyed so far. The main character is just too cute!

Amusingly enough the amount I’ve been reading for this current novel has been slower than it was with Fate/strange Fake. I’ve traded difficulty for actually interesting content, to the point where I don’t even have anything to say about this novel…

Word of the Day: 起臥(きが) - daily life, or more literally waking up and going to sleep. Written with the characters for getting up (起) and lying down (臥), this word paints a disheartening picture of the routine of everyday life…

got about halfway through the next section of 逆転検事(ぎゃくてんけんじ)２ and it felt like a good place to stop to avoid overworking myself, even tho i was having a lot of fun and had to force myself to stop spent a while looking up the phrase 泥舟(どろぶね)に乗(の)る (here and here) which stopped me from getting further. something’s funky with this prison, and not just the escape tunnel or alligator in the pond. i think i know who did it? but i’m very interested to see the solution to this one. also the return of regina!! she looks really good in this style.

actually did four fate episodes today, all of (dark) カリオストロ’s cos i had them unlocked and thought why not. wasn’t particularly invested, but good for them ig. today’s nhk article was another one on one of the animators at kyoto animation.

turns out the playlist i was using for y3 did miss out something (kashiwagi getting shot to death, which is a pretty big thing to miss out!) so i’ve swapped to a different one. i’ll play it myself at some point, so it’s not a huge deal if i miss some of the smaller stuff which the other channel sometimes included.

So far it has kind of a similar vibe to 三ツ星カラーズ to me, just with much more intensity lol. School club of 3 high school girls engaging in games and tomfoolery with some extreme visual gags and punishments

• 寝(ね)そべる = to lie down stretched
• 膝(ひざ)を突(つ)く = to fall down to one’s knees. Not necessarily about expressing respect, here.
• 引(ひ)っ括(くる)める = to take all things into account; all inclusive
• 歪(ひず)み = distortion. Like bad influence. Has Furigana. Another reading is 歪(ゆが)み (which is probably more physical). And also, 歪(いびつ) (can also be comparative).

Tileworld Chronicles, Chapter 4 of Markus’ Ascent, p. 13 - 15
Markus and Celestina rest in their little Minish hole and have a talk. Apparently the messaging armbands can only send within 200 meters, but they got a message from way further away. That means there is something special that helps increase the reach of the runestones behind that mysterious door. Obviously Markus wants to know more about it, but Celestina is against it.

Anyway, they sleep, and the next day they move on, but not before being invited back to visit 10 days later.
