Here are today and yesterday’s diary entries :>
今年太くなったことはびくりじゃないね ハハ!Have you guys tried this cheese before? Maybe it’s my British roots coming out but I LOVE stinky cheeses ahaha the stronger the better.
As for studying, Wanikani is going super well and I am really enjoying easing back into daily Japanese study by reviewing the basics! Didn’t really do any Russian this week tho, welp! Please hold me accountable team
Monday Dec 15 :
Nooooooo hahahaah my boyfriend didn’t like his dinner very much, it was too full of farts he said
Looking into it lol
I couldn’t remember the word for fat; I originally wrote 太さ but I don’t think that’d have worked either…
I try not to look up any words while writing these so that it’s 100% recall and - in theory lol - I’ll gradually see my writing improve as I remember/study more
Jisho shows the word 脂肪、しぼう for fat; grease; lard — a wanikani level 51 word :o I only ever got to lvl 40 so maybe that’s why I couldn’t recall it ! But now I WILL NEVER FORGET IT SO THAT I DON’T HAVE THE FART MIXUP AGAIN AHHAA
Woke up at 5:30AM today, ate some brekky and coffee at a cafe. not by choice heh heh we’re still having the car troubles mentioned in 12.9.25’s post — don’t want ppl thinking I’m an early bird by any means lool I leveled up to level 3 on WK this morning :> I have about 35 mins more till I need to set off for work so, I’m deciding between a) doing some Russian or b) submitting some more job applications so far, I’ve submitted 3, and heard a no back from 1 ! Maybe I’ll try and do both
I took this photo in the shop! The table is wood and glass and metal and I like it! I’ve been buying so many second hand home goods recently, I’m feeling so broody
Only after writing this and getting ready to post here did I realize IT’S MY FREAKING USERNAME EVEN hahahaha
The weird part is every time it rains here I get super excited, but all the people around me say “what are you talking about ? It rains all the time here ?” If only they knew my standard </3 I wanted to upload a video from rainy season in my blessed 静岡県 where I used to live, but I think it exceeds the size limit so here’s just a screenshot from the vid:
I’m doing wanikani every day which feels really good I also did a little bit of Russian today too over lunch. I’m going to try and do a bunch of job applications tomorrow on my day off, just spamming them out into the void!! I hope everyone has a great holiday if you celebrate this time of year!
All this to say, after writing this diary entry… I signed myself and my boyfriend mwahaha up for a 25km next spring !! We had been talking about it casually for a few weeks but seeing the NO RUNS IN NOV 2025 on my running app this morning was the last straw !! This month was the month I started up this new study log, and I hope it can also be the turning point for getting back into running!
Did you guys get anything nice on Christmas? What did you do to celebrate?
So my mind has been pretty occupied, and I’ve been feeling quite down about my dad ~ he receives results from a biopsy soon, so we’re all hoping for good news. But that’s the main reason I haven’t posted much the last few weeks.
Despite this, I’ve done my wanikani reviews every day. In sweeter news, my boyfriend (who I actually met in Japan and knows the basics of Japanese) has been doing my reviews with me (!!!) and I’ve been teaching him kanji. It’s been really wholesome to see him connect kanji with the words he already knows: (“THAT’S the kanji for sensei ???” etc. haha)
Hoping for good things for your dad It’s so impressive that you’ve done your reviews every day though! And I feel your job search woes, it’s soul crushing…
It’s always “久しぶり” at the start of my posts it seems haha — just posting a mini update in response to my last post.
some very sad personal stuff (CW: illness)
like I mentioned in my last Japanese diary, my dad was diagnosed with cancer recently; I went back to London and was able to see him for two weeks, which was really lovely albeit sad. It isn’t curable unfortunately and it’s stage 4 :( so it’s been a heavy month for my family and coming to terms with that. But now I’m back in the states, having to return back to work.
While with my dad in the UK, I didn’t do wanikani every day of course, but since being back I’ve tried to get back into a routine. Routines are super helpful when dealing with stuff like this I find, trying to make some normalcy amidst the world turning upside down and not JUST in my personal life, the situation in the USA is so dystopian and awful right now…
But as my dad would say gratitude is the attitude haha so here are a few little nice things over the last month:
