I think now would be an awesome time to focus on reading more, I notice Quartet grammar points basically everywhere and then I have to be like, well, I guess it’s a good thing I read the book after all…
We can’t stop meeting yet, we’re only halfway through Chapter 4! 
I feel my brain melting at the idea of reading more now that I’m back in college (I’m taking a Literature class right now…), but actually, I’m at the phase rn where I’m getting more excited to interact with native material cause I can (partially) understand it! So I think I will use my weekend free time to finish up ひとりぼっちの◯◯生活 vol 1 and play 逆転裁判 as my reading practice.
But listening will take precedence over everything, since I want to participate in Summer Listen Every Day for September (and the rest of fall hopefully). I’ve been finishing ひもうと！うまるちゃん S1 and started listening to YUYUの日本語 Podcast and I like it.
Well, I’ve been having some back to back hell weeks at work, hardly leaving time for sleep - much less dedicated grammar study - but it appears that it is the season so… I will be joining the Quartet 2 ranks as I also have managed to drag my battered body across the Quartet 1 finish line today 
For all the ‘ups and downs’ I felt I was encountering throughout Quartet 1, looking back I’m quite pleased with the pace, and hope to have as much luck with Quartet 2. Theres definitely a lot of stuff that needs review, but most of these I see pretty frequently in my immersion so I’m trying not to sweat it too hard. I’ve left the brush-ups untouched - planning to do those after I finish Quartet 2, and as I did with Genki 1+2, I’ll be rewatching all the tokini andy videos when I complete both books as well.

Agreed! I always get surprised when I cover something in Quartet and then start seeing it everywhere- my latest was に済む which I see constantly but I think wasn’t covered until chapter 6!

The Japan Times is charging something along the lines of $250 per semester access to their teacher-support materials, which are like what Seth had created. It sucks that they didn’t accept his work…
However, in addition, the Japan Times now has more “free” Self-Study Materials available online than previously…
They may very well ask Tokini Andy to take down his videos, also…

Tokini Andy doesn’t use their example sentences or dialogues though, so he might be ok. Seth’s website was definitely in the grey area because it uses the literal material from the textbooks, tbh was surprised it was up for so long.
I’d say I’m finished with chapter 1. Did not do the speaking and started a bit with writing essay but honestly I have little to no interest in output for now. Maybe in the future I’ll revisit those but for now I’ll primary keep to the videos, reading, grammar, listening and workbook for the readings.
The listening part was pretty hard. I am so used to subtitles in pretty much everything, my own language too, so that is a skill I should (but have little interest in unfortunately) focus on

Pace
I want to get through Quartet I in time for the JLPT N3 test in December, so I’m going to try and cover each chapter in around 7-10 days. This is going to be a really challenging pace but I really want to use the JLPT to really push me into learning intermediate material. Fingers crossed I can keep up my motivation!
It is really sad that it happens right when I start to use it :') . I hope Seth can find a way to create a similar content, as it was the only one I know of that took this shape and form. It’s a bit crazy that there isn’t more “textbook websites” with corrections, score tracking etc…

Yeah if it was just grammar practice generally, without copying their example sentences, I wouldn’t see the problem. Seth used their actual material which is why it makes sense he got a copyright claim. I think Seth’s Genki 2nd edition site is still up though.

Annnnd I’m back. 
I decided to start working through Quartet 2 and began Andy’s first video, starting with つつある。Pretty easy to understand so far, I think the main time sink will just be how many grammar points are covered, seems like a lot!

I was curious about Quartet, since I might be able to buy some books soon (even if I am not ready for Quartet, for the future).
Do you think it would be an effective workflow to follow Tokini Andy videos, and just buy the Quartet workbook ? I do this with Genki + the workbook website and it’s so much easier to me 
Hmmm, maybe some other people can weigh in on this, but I think the Quartet books are a lot more valuable to have than the Genki books. They have a lot of high quality example sentences per grammar point, good explanations, and plus you won’t be able to do the readings without the book.
