Petition to change the radical 里 to Hometown

Hello everyone!

Currently the radical meaning is Village while the Kanji is HomeTown. I added this meaning manually to this radical, as it compounded my confusion with 村 and 町. The confusion stemmed from that the radical is village, while hometown is not “homevillage” (I know it is not a correct word). In Dutch we do not have a clear distinction between village and town. I have another post for this exact confusion, and realized this radical/kanji is a part of the cause.

I do not know if this would mess up the kanji reasoning later on, someone else can probably best evaluate this. Village should be a secondary reading so it does not mess up everyone learning this radical though.

it used to be hometown
i can’t seem to find when it was changed (back) to village, though
but i could’ve sworn i had learned it as hometown, then after i reset it told me it is now village, so it had to be since 2023
that, or i’m just confusing it with the kanji and maybe the radical used to be a much higher level for some reason

That is some nice digging you did there!

From what I can see in these posts is that the meaning of the kanji and vocab changed to hometown (this is still the case), but it does not mention the radical. The second link is older than the first link you mentioned.

yes, to show that it was “village” when first introduced, then changed to “hometown” later
the only reference to the radical i could find was about adding images

This is where the radical is used for; as visible I unlocked almost none of them yet so I don’t know how dependent these are on the radical being village opposed to hometown.
