I will look up these books in case other people are also too lazy to go looking through other threads.

So “The Sound-Symbolic System of Japanese”, Shoko Hamano (1998)?

  • “A History of the Japanese Language”, Bjarke Frellesvig (eds in 2010/2011)
  • “Bungo Manual: Selected Reference Materials for Students of Classical Japanese”
    by Helen C. McCullough (2010 1988)
  • EDIT: “A Reference Grammar of Classical Japanese Prose” by Dr Alexander Vovin (2002)

McCullough’s should be from 1988 I think. And Vovin I mentioned in the previous post, it’s A Reference Grammar of Classical Japanese Prose. I’m not interested enough in Old Japanese to own a two-volume massive reference like that. :sweat_smile:

PS: It’s just my personal library, though, I make no claim that it be the best.
