Other gamey resources?

I was a late Persona fan and Finished Golden, played FES, and when 5 came out I felt a little buyers remorse because I knew that they were gonna come out with a final version. My sister (bless her heart) preorder the take your heart edition for me before they ran out of stock so I don’t want to complain.

Seconding Renshuu and especially the counters practice. Writing isn’t bad either for a free resource.

To me, doing all three felt like too much, but Lingo Legends (phone app) is probably perfect for you. You can start at a difficulty appropriate for you and then decide what category to study. Similar to drops, there is a limited amount you can do per set amount of time for free. I’m 2k words deep in Drops and half way through WK, so I feel I should finish these resources first. If it works for you though to do all of them together though, great!

I was doing everything via renshuu for a bit, but it became a chore and by the end of the day I didn’t want to even do the fun stuff in Japanese. I may go back for their grammar lessons though. I like how they handle grammar. I am against typing grammar, but also against just doing things anki style. They found that perfect solution.

Ah, you mean the multiple choice setting? I think my problem was that I was memorizing the right answers and not the grammar itself in that area. The rest of it, I recall really liking, although shiritori ends up being a timesink imo. I’m finally at the level where I get the most and varied practice from native mats reading or else I would have wished to start with Renshuu from the beginning. Or well, Renshuu with a good guide on how to set up the grammar studies. I couldn’t get that sorted and got frustrated out of it until later.

I think maybe my focus on grammar study meshed well with it because when I messed up I felt I wasn’t just memorizing the answer as much as I was figuring out where the pieces belonged as a whole. Like I am not memorizing that 1+1 = 2, I am remembering that when 1 is added to 1 it equals 2. Everyones different though.

For me, usually multiple choice questions don’t help me learn as much, while typing does. Bunpro is more my speed question/answer style, but I can’t stand doing grammar with an srs

Like you said, everyone’s just different

I use Bunpro without the SRS, I can select all the items I want to study (for example those I already know from my Genki lesson) and do a Cram session, it works great for me!

I genuinely did not realize you could turn the srs off! I’ll have to give it another go, thank you!

If you’re using it on desktop, here is a really simple userstyle to let you show furigana only when hovering over a word : drdru.github.io - furigana hover — UserStyles.world

You need a browser extension like Stylus (Firefox and Chrome) for it to work though.

userstyle_furigana

edit: added a little transition so it’s now smoother yay

That’s cool !

I am actually of the opinion that since this is a content site, I don’t want to go out of my way and implement whatever could be done by the browser + extensions.

Showing furigana only when hovering over a word looks so neat that I am now tempted to make it the default though.

what game is this?

It’s bad for mobile, in case you’re interested about that.
