I took Latin for 3 years for year 7 - year 9.But you can do it from year 7- year 11.There was also an extra that allowed you to do Greek .It was required I go to a traditional English school in the country side .I know in other schools in places like london they do mandarin which I took for a year when I used to live there .But technically we can take almost any language we want as there is an exam for most languages but you would have to study alone then take the exam through the school.
Youāre doing your best! Remember to give yourself some grace This also goes out to the other first timers here, even if āfailingā seems like itās is on the horizon, I hope that doesnāt minimize any progress that you made on the way to getting here. I get worried about ānot passingā but then I remember that I started this journey this year with absolutely zero Japanese.
This test is for sure not the be all to end all. All roads eventually lead to fluency. Itās only a matter of time and showing up to do the work. We all got this in the end.
My grammar is weakā¦ started taking 1:1 online tutoring ~1.5 months ago and itās helping tremendously so feeling like a may skate by for N2
Going to have shot to N3 but I havenāt done any grammar review yet yolo
Thatās cool, how do yāall work through grammar points? Do you read through native material and then your teacher dissects the grammar points used and discusses them with you?
Basically she has a sheet put together that explains the grammar point, any special considerations, has three example sentences, and then 5 half sentences where I create the other half of the sentence using the grammar point. I read the sheet once, then she goes through it once.
Post class I make 3-4 sample sentences and she corrects them prior to the next class.
We cover 2-4 grammar points a lesson and itās been sticking well enough for me to pick out the right grammar point in JLPT multiple choice questions.
Iām finding it works much better for me than any of the grammar apps out there (like bunpro).
Second best grammar option Iāve found is the Japanese no mori videos.
taking n5 ! nervous
i will be taking N2. my first time, i havenāt taken it before.
i think i could probably comfortably pass N3, so i decided to go ahead and move to N2. i donāt think iāll pass but i wonāt be bothered if i failā¦ it will just be practice for the next one.
e: oh, alsoā¦ for study/practice iām taking a class specific to N2, and working with a tutor 1:1 reading through a book (i type the book into google docs and we read through it, she asks me questions and ensures my understanding of the words and phrases) but right now iām really busy with my college classes so I havenāt had time to read and meet with her lately
I was using Shinkansen Master for N2 grammar, vocab, reading, and listening, but I was starting to get burnt out. Iām rubbish at studying. I dropped the grammar book a couple of weeks ago, and dropped the vocab book last night. Not much was sticking and it felt like a waste of time.
Iām now concentrating on the reading and listening books, as well as practice tests, and reading and listening to a lot of native content. I think I need to see or hear something in the wild to get a proper feel for it. Textbooks make me sleepy
I never took a JLPT before, and in December Iāll be taking the N4
I took a sample test yesterday and passed! But it was also harder than I thought and had more unknown words than I expectedā¦ So Iām cautiosly optimistic about my chances, but stil a little scared.
With one month to go though, I hope I can minimize some of that knowledge gap!
For study, I was doing only Wanikani + Bunpro, but since I have quite a lot of unknown vocab I added Kamesame to the mix (Which is being more dificult than I thought!) and also trying to watch some more youtube videos on grammar explanations, to go alongisde Bunpro.
Normal Japanese wise, GREAT! JLPT N1 wise, I am burnt out. I havenāt been able to keep any of my routines outside of my Anki practice in the morning. All the drills and everything are just all over the place results wise and while grammar is my weakest area (in terms of stuff I just donāt know) I donāt feel like I can reasonably manage my time to learn retain any of it. I am basically calling āquitsā but am still actively reading, listening, and learning new words every day. So I canāt say that I am not learning or studying.
I will just let the pieces fall where they may, but I am challenging myself enough everyday to say that I am studyingā¦ just not the way I intended and the drill results are 50/50 of guessing wrong and things I definitely know.
I feel overburdened just talking about it.
Fell off the WK wagon for a while (have been back on for ~2 weeks), have not read more than a handful of manga pages in the past week, and am just doing mountains of grammar and vocab review pages from ę„ę¬čŖē·ć¾ćØćN1 every day. Practice drills are averaging around 70%, but god only knows if Iām retaining any of it.
:'D itās a fun time over here
I just finished ę°å®å Øćć¹ćæć¼ grammar for N2 today! I also did Try N2 a couple of months ago. Doing the first of the two practice exams in skzm, I got 15/22, so thatās passing, butā¦yikes! Iām not sure what my course of action should be for the next few weeks for building my grammar confidence.
I realized today that while going through the exercises, it would have helped for me to be looking at the answer key while doing them instead of doing a bunch of practice problems and then realizing I got a lot wrongā¦I understand the grammar points but when it comes to answering the questions, I second guess myself and get mixed upā¦I think I will probably pull Try N2 back out to review. I have been attempting to use bunpro, but Iām thinking that wonāt necessarily help me answer JLPT questions. And it takes a long time.
I also have a considerable amount of the čŖå½ and čŖč§£ SKZM books to review. At this point, Iām guessing Iām probably not going to be learning much of anything new but I want to see how much I can cram, I guess.
What a time!
Not me on section 6 of the grammar book ā¦ Iāve had lessons covering all the grammar anyways but not made my way through the book
Right now Iām focusing in on 3 main resources to review for the test:
-
N2 Power Drill (Kanji/Vocab)
-
ę„ę¬čŖć®ę£® for grammar
-
ę°å®å ØčŖč§£N2
I keep falling off of doing any targeted drills for listening. When doing practice tests I ended up being stronger in that section than I initially thought so thereās not much of a fire under my ass to focus on it. Grammar and reading however are my main focus. At this point Iām feeling more confident with grammar and reading is improving bit by bit now that Iāve spent some time on increasing my reading speed and embracing ambiguity. Kanji/vocab is the least intimidating section for me just because you either know it or you donāt.
This will be my first attempt so as weāre getting closer to the test date, Iām feeling like Iāll do alright and want to say Iām proud of my progress the last 3 years no matter the result. Good luck everyone!
I bet thereās a way to strategically only look at sections you think you need more practice in.
It just felt really important for me to go through the entire book! Iām not sure how much good it did me, all things considered. I need more practice problems!
We have three more weeks!
almost there yāall
donāt remind me iām not readyā¦
So even though Iām only doing N5 I feel like Iām gonna fail lol had to move house this month, and the place Iāve moved to wasnāt taken care of by the previous owner. Itās taken up all my time, and my listening is still pretty behind.
Not looking forward to Sunday but I guess I just gotta get on with it
