Can @jprspereira or a regular update the title of the thread too?
Oh, it’s this short, I’ll try to see if I have any nominations waiting to be made
To “Beginner Japanese Book Club // Now Reading: この美術部には問題がある!” ?

Not sure if he did it or I did it, but it’s done. ![]()
I gave my kokoro to you so we could do it together, clearly, that’s what happened.
I shall treasure it always. ![]()
Hehe thanks guys. Maybe we could even add “Looking for nomination and voting soon”? There was a whole discussion recently about a lack of visibility for knowing when things like vote and such are happening
Maybe this could be added in the first post? Now I’m already posting so much that it is disappearing ![]()
Does someone who has read 葬送のフリーレン want to nominate it? I will nominate it if no one else does, but it would probably be stronger coming from someone who has read it.
I did read it, but I’m unsure if it fits the club, mostly due to rule number 6 (since it’s fantasy), but I also fee like it’s slightly above this club - I’d say it’s either a easy pick for the IBC or something in between the clubs.
Ah, that’s a really good point, you’re right. Glad I asked!
I believe @Jintor read the first volume recently, if he has any input on difficulty. While the story is fantasy, a lot of the first volume is pretty slice-of-lifey fantasy at a leisurely pace if I’m remembering correctly
That’s also my feeling from the anime, but Jintor’s review says it’s…
Nevertheless: Rule #6 is just a suggestion, and I feel like an L25 is inside the upper bounds of the BBC (both previous picks were L26). I’m not personally interested in reading it, since I’m just now watching the anime version, but to me it looks good to nominate if anyone wants to.
If people don’t want to read it for whatever reason, they just won’t vote for it and that’s that, no need to hold back the nomination. Maybe mention as a con that it has a good amount of fantasy vocab?
I have read the first two volumes of 葬送のフリーレン and would compare it the following way with previous picks of the BBC which I also read:
I largely agree with this. The full furigana is immensely helpful, and though it is a fantasy manga because of its more iyashikei feeling dialogue is a lot shorter, more generally relatable and to the point. But you’re still going to get words that won’t come up as much outside of fantasy-related stuff - which is fine if you are going to read in that area later, as I plan to. I do think it should just be nominated and put to the group - there’s no harm in it, after all.
EG looking at my list of words I had to look up, there’s stuff like 不死 (immortality), 魔導書 (grimoire) and so on, but also regular stuff like ため口 (chatter), 些細 (kanji form of trivial, which i don’t see as often) or even 要素 (component), so I feel like it’s a decent mix of vocab.
Gotta watch “To your eternity”. You would have known that word, even if you only did that in English
Ok, thanks for the comments everyone! It sounds like it wouldn’t hurt to make a nomination post, cheers

This manga is one of the most enjoyable manga I’ve read in recent memory, to the point that I randomly open it on my tablet to reread random sections. It has a unique aesthetic with light green coloring and bite-sized 4 page chapters, which work surprisingly well.

You can check out the preview on any of the above sites or check out random pages (spoilers possible) on the author’s Twitter account.
How much effort would you need to read this book?
I can’t wait for the 2nd vol lol
I check on Amazon multiple times a week. ![]()
