Not just level 60...I burned them all! And the life after

I didn’t think I’d get this far but I did! (After approximately 9 years, including all of the times my Japanese learning took a backseat due to work, personal problems, and possibly every combination of life event in between)

To be more accurate, it took me 7-8 years to reach level 60, then another year or so to burn everything.

What title shall the almighty Crabigator bestow upon me?

Ah, but in all honesty, while I have burned everything, my reading comprehension and kanji recognition have deteriorated in some ways. This is because my current job focuses more on technology (in Japanese) than actual translating. I still have many other materials to study as well as N1 to aim for (which I have failed twice).

What’s life like for those who have mastered all from the Crabigator?

Wowza. We need a twelve step program for people that accomplish this (or even make the attempt).

When WK inevitably adds some more vocabulary, just avert your eyes and back slowly away from the keyboard …

(Kidding, of course.)

Congratulations! I’m glad I bought the lifetime membership so I can take my time getting there. If I keep up my current pace, it’s looking like 3 years to get to level 60.

Congrats on making it to level 60 and burning everything! You rock! Good luck on the N1, and any other plans for your kanji and Japanese knowledge?

That’s absolutely amazing!

I don’t think I’ll ever go for that. Primarily because I have no plans to get Lifetime, and I likely wouldn’t complete this within the same annual sub as my eventual 60.

Are you going to reset for extra practice? I imagine the other forms of study would probably yield better results at that point.

I am genuinely anticipating the additional vocab, but for now I pat myself on the back

For now I plan to make as much progress on Bunpro and Satori Reader (where I have mostly finished the coverage for N2-N1 but haven’t exactly mastered them yet)

I also practice on the Sou Matome series of textbooks/workbooks. I still feel like they’re not enough though given how N1 coverage isn’t as clearly defined as N2 to N5.

@ onesteadyguy I am waiting for you to join me, grasshopper :innocent:

@ Squintina Still thinking about whether to reset but for now I do feel like that would be a shame for my progress so I guess I’ll move on to Bunpro and Satori Reader to distract myself

Congrats!!! So happy for you!

As someone who bought lifetime in 2019 and is about to (for the first time, I believe) make it to level 16, you are a shining beacon of hope that persistence pays off. Congrats on burning everything! :tada:

I was planning to make a similar post when I did the same . I have 12 more to burn before I can post, but WaniKani just announced new content so it looks like I’ll be waiting a bit longer. WaniKani Content Additions and Movements: Wednesday, June 11th, 2025 - Wednesday, July 9th, 2025

I’m curious if you made a big shift in the types of studying or immersion you did after hitting 60 as less time was spent on WaniKani.

Oooh, thanks for this list of new additions!

I think around Level 50 I started prioritizing my Japanese bilingual job more, as well as other apps such as Bunpro and Satori Reader

For now I am still trying to get my life together (work has been busy lately) but I hope to truly immerse myself in Japanese studies again
