My impression with this is that the icon will only be up if there is a person immediately available to answer the chats, so there theoretically shouldn’t be lag. But yeah, that’s definitely a consideration, which is probably why they’re only in the testing stage with this. I just wanted to say that I can see the positives in what they’re trying to do and appreciate the effort they’re putting into improving the WK Experience™

Maybe I don’t spend enough time on scam websites (?!), but for me I associate them more with services… My bank’s website has one, for example, and my water company’s… I think my phone provider? Some shopping websites have them, which often feels a bit surplus to requirements, but usually it’s for products where you genuinely might need assistance, like hardware and that sort of thing. I think the place I bought my water butt from had one to help people who weren’t sure about fitting them to their guttering

Personally I have just seen them a lot on these obviously scam websites so I guess I associate them with suspicion by first glance. It doesnt help that I never use them either. My bank also has one both on the app and website, but I avoid it. I clicked on the one here though because of my devotion to the crabigator

Honestly not at all sure what people mean by “scam website” anyway. If something’s obviously a scam, I’m not hanging around long enough to notice that there’s a chat support function in the corner.

The messengers literally always pop up in your screen in a medium size asking if you need help. I havent been scammed, but they just keep increasing everywhere. I get many scam emails daily, for example from apple rip-offs with emails looking pretty close to official. You can always tell the difference in a few ways if you look closely but its pretty annoying.
That’s interesting. I can’t even think of a “scam website”. I guess I’m pretty cautious when browsing the web but I definitely wouldn’t make a connection between a live chat button and scammers.
I see live chat buttons on service provider websites and various startups that are eager to sell you stuff but I wouldn’t go as far as to call them scammers.
Oh, and I actually use the live chat option when I need to get in touch with the company. It’s very convenient to write a message and know that you can get help in a timely manner.

I’d love to do this too and it’s already on our list! What we’re using right now just to test the chat feature is limited unfortunately and can’t do any of that. But if we make some decisions with the chat feature after the test period, we’ll definitely be looking to using something that can have options like this so it’s easier for people to reach out even when we’re offline. Thanks
Yeah we understand, it doesn’t look great. We’re looking in to a workaround due to the tool’s limited options and hopefully it’ll be smaller from later today.

Agreed. Being a daily user of this website I know that this isn’t the case here, and it actually made me excited to see this feature pop up on my dash yesterday for a little while.
Regardless, I do find that on other reliable sites that I use the chat function is easily accessible, but isn’t a pop-up icon in the corner. Most of the time pop-up chat boxes make me think SCAM. I’d hate for new people to jump onto the Wanikani website and have that misunderstanding.
