Yeah it’s not the first time I encounter タチ in manga, I’m fairly sure it popped in Full Metal Alchemist as well. Or maybe Love Belette? Or both. I wish there was an easy way to do a text search.

NANA first-timer here, now caught up with the club! Heard a ton of praise for this series over the years, glad to now finally read it on my own. Looks like I was almost convinced to read it earlier, as I had bought the first five volumes in some Bookwalker sale in late 2023.

Scan quality
Unfortunately the Bookwalker scan quality is rather low – I’ll be asking here if I can’t decipher something at all.
This one would’ve been the first question if there wasn’t a ご返却は？ just two panels earlier.
I liked what I read so far. Surprisingly text-heavy! Some nice handwriting analysis challenges as well, keeps one on their toes.
Happy to report that the 1999 setting feels authentic – there was something special about going to a video rental store. Being able to browse widely and without algorithmic aid helped me discover many movies I wouldn’t have otherwise found. There was also the staff with real human recommendations when you couldn’t choose – many of them real movie buffs that had seen everything.

Uh oh, there are already some references to under- and overeating. I’m hoping for 奈々’s sake that this is not foreshadowing.
I can’t help but feel bad for 奈々 being taken advantage of. A silver lining that she had been able to reflect on it and had herself come to the conclusion that the breakup was a good thing.
I’m still not good enough with Japanese names to spot a 偽名 just like that – can someone share what set your alarms off about 浅野崇? I’m now reading book by 小川一水, which is so on the nose that even I could figure out it’s a pen name…
Getting drunk and oversharing by accident feels somehow very relatable to me.

Hmm insteresting that you put it that way. I thought they just assumed that it’s a fake name because he doesn’t want to be traced back to his real life, in case Nana would go to his wife or colleagues… Don’t know if we are “supposed” to see that it’s fake!

Larger example
Let’s see if I can convince Discourse to show the image at full size… it’s a bit hard to demonstrate because Discourse wants to convert my lossless PNG screenshots to JPEG, thus adding its own compression on top of what there already is in Bookwalker.
In this screenshot (click it to open) you can see heavy JPEG compression artifacts (smudgy dots) all around the writing. If I didn’t know how to read 問題, based on the furigana of this scan I would probably read ちんだい!
I cannot read what’s written on the menu(?) that 奈々 is holding – perhaps someone with a better scan or paper version can?
I can still follow the story well, so it’s not such a big deal – this is common with older series in my experience. (But of course I’d like to read the best available version.)
