Minor Discourse annoyance

Sometimes it opens downwards, sometimes it opens upwards. Schrodinger’s summary.

Oh, excellent. That was a bit of a delayed response. :stuck_out_tongue:

Seems to be working properly for me now.

Anyone else noticing that it’s back now?

Not presently. Touch wood.

Well that’s odd. I can’t reproduce it now, even though I could before my prior reply. Maybe that means it was coincidentally fixed?

Indeed.

I’m seeing details boxes already open when I open a thread. It’s annoying because everyone uses them in book clubs to hide spoilers.

Yeah, I encountered the same again after my reply above, then went down the rabbit hole of trying to get a screen recording.

Aye, that’s a function of the new WYSIWYG editor - it saves the state of the details box in whatever position it was left when the post was submitted. Which is dumb, because people edit the details box in the open position - otherwise they can’t see what they’re doing.

I see. Well, I hate it, thanks Discourse

It’s good to know it makes sense, even if it doesn’t make sense.

Aye, the behaviour is consistent, at least. You can do it yourself with the better original Markdown editor: just insert the word “open” inside the Details box tag. But yeah, why you’d want to do that, I haven’t the foggiest idea. “I’ve made a ginourmous post and have inserted handy code to let you hide parts of it… but you have to hide it yourself, I’m not gonna do it for you.”

That seems broken – can we get WK to report the bug to Discourse?

(I also find that on my Android tablet the forum homepage layout has changed and has a column of “latest” on the right side that it didn’t used to and that I don’t want and apparently can’t configure away. I assume that’s based on screen width as my android phone still shows the page without it.)

I reported it two months ago. They recognized the problem, but technically it’s working as designed. What you see (in the editor) is indeed what you get (in the post), even if it’s incredibly stupid. I asked for an update two days ago and got no response. Everyone is welcome to post there and reiterate why the current behavior is a problem.

Clearly the problem behaviour here is from the users. They’re not closing their boxes behind them as they go. /s

Same old, same old. Just me?

Edit: wow, gifs behave weird too, I have to refresh page to see it play again
