There is a word that means ruler (as in 12-inch measuring ruler) that I am positive used to part of standard Wanikani lessons. It is 定規 in kanji and じょうぎ in hiragana.
I just ran across the word in the wild and didn’t recognize it, then I remembered that it was a Wanikani word and went back to the site so I could unburn it & learn it all over again. But it’s gone! I can’t find it anywhere, either by searching for the component kanji or by searching for the English definition.
Am I not searching correctly, or was it removed? If it was removed, why?
Okay… what is happening here. I don’t mean to sound conspiratorial but I effectively had this exact same thing happen to me for this same exact word. I even have evidence it’s something I have objectively encountered-
This is a screenshot from my ongoing personal dictionary I have been building- a dictionary I only update with items I come across while learning in an effort to catalogue in one condensed space. It’s sitting there and has been sitting there for a long time now. It’s also not something I passingly saw on like a “heres 10 Japanese words you should know” post on social media or something either since it is specifically in it’s Kanji form- if I only saw it in Romaji or Kana it’s respective row would be green like the sticky note row in the image.
If I’m not learning words from WaniKani, I 9/10 times learned them through Bunpro since I effectively exclusively log things that are in or have been in one of these SRS systems (I pen and paper new things I encounter in standard immersion like manga or video games). However, I have not encountered this word on Bunpro. You can see it still has the “add to reviews” button in place of a progress meter.
I would’ve bet money this term was one I learned through WK since those Kanji are both long since learned on here. Seeing this forum post is making me feel like I stepped into the Twilight Zone. I apologize for making more questions than answers here but this is bizarre
