Maybe it's worth teaching 玉 as radical

I know right now there’s only two kanji on WaniKani that would incorporate it, but the mnemonic for 璧 right now is just stupid.

璧 means “disc” and I think knowing that 玉 means “ball”, it would make much more sense to build a mnemonic around that (since a disc is pretty much a 2D ball), instead of talking about getting a drop from a king.

This isn’t exactly an answer to your question but:

from Why doesn't Wanikani treat all kanji as radicals? - #10 by koichi basically agrees with you - kanji should be radicals more often than they are now. But legacy code means that it would require rewriting things which is a lot of effort and I don’t even work at wanikani anyway so who knows when that will actually happen?

Regardless of legacy code, just the relationships themselves…that would require a lot of rethinking and shifting things around. Could be a fun project though.
