I think the reason why most people remove the topic name from the url is because some people like to change the title of their study log, which has the consequence of also breaking old links which contain the old title in the url. If you cut out the topic title portion of the url, it’ll work no matter what the current topic title is.
That’s actually not how discourse works. The title text portion of the URL is purely ornamental, as an aid for anyone seeing the link to know what it is without clicking. As long as the topic ID (and post ID if linking a reply) are there, you can put anything in the text section and it works.
