Marriage, Cohabitation & LGBTQ-issues - how to write/vocab use

Which was my main point. From the children perspective, do they need more than 2 legal parents? Regardless of what the parents like for sexual partners, the children’s needs are quite different. This is why this is illegal. They don’t, from a legal standpoint.

For example. If 3 people marry and divorce: who gets custody? How much money do you have to pay divorced partners (ALL of them) (and NO, you can’t divide the amount among the partners, each need to have the full amount!)? If someone dies, who gets inheritance?

How to share legal responsibilities as “parents” beyond more than 2 genetic parents is a legal nightmare, no matter how you look at it. It’s not about the rights of the parents, but the rights of the children. They deserve to not get involved in that mess.

THIS is the marriage institution - not the “fun” parts.

But, all consenting adult parties can agree to a legal agreement. Meaning, it is possible to make a custom made marriage agreement. But, you may not diminish the rights of the children regardless, legally speaking.

Seems like I need to revive this topic with a new question about Japanese from a LGBTQ-perspective.

I just had the lesson for son-in-law.

The Japanese word is
娘婿 [daughter+groom]【むすめむこ】 (n) son-in-law, (P)

  1. So, what happens in the case of your daughter marrying a woman instead, so it becomes a daughter-in-law?

  2. And what if your son marries another man, because 娘婿 very clearly designates it as your “daughter’s” groom

Can you use 息子婿? (son’s groom). Is that a word? :eyes:

And what about daughter-in-law? Would you also change the word around for that case? 娘嫁 (daughter’s bride)?

Or can 娘婿 actually also encompass these other gay cases, because it’s a broader concept?
