Looking for tips on remembering 民 vs 氏

I’m at a point where these are getting jumbled in my head and maybe someone has some tips to help me differentiate between the two.

For example, I was having trouble with 午 and 牛 and I read that someone on the forums said “Noon is when the sun is at it’s highest. You can’t get any higher than 午.” and that was all my brain needed to never confuse these kanji again. I’m hoping for something like that. :crossed_fingers:t2:

When a family name(氏) has many members, it gains a mouth(民) to show it is now a people.

Just as 人 person with an added mouths 人口 becomes population, so clan with added mouths 民becomes a people.

Edit: apologies, I see minimuffins beat me to it.

Maybe: When surnames/clans (氏) are joined under a flag (尸), they form a nation/people (民).

Actually the first stroke it s very different.
Just like 「l 」and「 - 」 are both one stroke, bug do you mix them?

The first stroke of 民 goes from left to right horizontally, then down vertically. While to hr first stroke of 氏 is from right to left diagonally down.
