aw nice! I checked them out thinking shipping fees would count me out but they are ebooks! Have snapped both up - thanks for the tip off!
Damn, seems like I have a lot to learn from you @trombonekun91 -sempai. I didn’t manage to talk anyone into buying Jalup
Great minds think alike Same here, got them, too. It was hard to resist such a great deal.
If Jalup was $8 rather than $300 then you might have had more luck! Not that I doubt that it’s worth that/a lot of effort went into making it but obviously it’s a much (almost 40x) harder sell! Personally I cleared out my “spending too much money on language learning” budget getting WK lifetime haha
@GrumpyPanda This was going to be my answer. Also, please refer to me as trombonekun91-dono as I am an ancient feudal lord.
This made me chuckle. I said this to myself as well, only knowing that I was clearly lying to my own heart. lol
Since we’re all here instead of studying anyways…
… do you guys have anything you just listen to while doing menial tasks? My shower could use a good scrub.
Somehow audio lessons don’t really work for me, because I always want to add the vocabulary to some SRS system (which I don’t actually want to do ) and the basic grammar lessons are a bit redundant if you’re actively studying from some other material.
I do have some audio material I loop (from the shadowing books and Jalup), but those are getting a bit monotonous on their own.
Ha! Scrolling through the forums with my morning coffee is becoming a habit. I should definitely try to limit that lol.
This is a fun podcast to listen and works on casual speaking skills. The hosts have a short conversation, and then they discuss the content and grammar. They usually riff on the topic of the podcast for about 5 minutes near the end. I normally listen once passively while I scrub my toilet and then scrub through what I found interesting more actively later with the PDFs.
Is this the same as JapanesePod101 or another Japanese pod haha?
For me my picks would be Nihongo conTeppei (I listen to for beginners, but I think there’s also a more advanced one) - https://nihongoconteppei.com/
I have a few others added to my podcast app (learn Japanese with noriko, learn Japanese from small talk…) but haven’t listened to enough to recommend. From the small bit I’ve listened to Japanese from small talk seemed too advanced for my listening comprehension so might be a good pick if the others seem too basic.
A thing I’ve been listening to when I really dont want to feel like I’m studying but want to still listen to Japanese is this one › https://oyasumistory.podbean.com/
It’s just some little stories aimed for kids - it’s not made for language learners but the pace of speaking and more limited vocab has meant that I’ve found it decent to stick on and see if I can follow any of it.
This is my first day back working after the holidays…you can tell I’m really managing to focus
Different pods haha!! It’s part listening, part informational.
Does he have transcripts in Japanese available like Noriko? I’m listening to his 学校 podcast right now and I love that I am understanding some of it on first listen. I hope he does!
I love her! She is more intermediate, but I find if I listen to each podcast a lot and follow along with the script, I end up picking up a lot. It’s just mind bending after a while lol.
I just realized… @sakaijin never “officially” joined the group… Are we being infiltrated? They’re active in here, do I add them to my leaderboard? I think I should add them. What is happening? We need to restore order
congrats @sakaijin! Your lovely handwritten sheet is reminding me that I need to get back to handwriting things more - it’s easy to drop when you’re running out of time though!
Sadly not I think his whole ethos is that he wants people to listen without reading and just chill out if there’s some things you don’t get. So far (with the exception of one episode that just threw so much new vocab at me!) because he introduces just a few things per episode and has a lot of repetition I’ve not really felt like I need a transcript. It’s good to know that the Noriko pod has them though!
Yeah, please add me
Thank You… Although I think my handwriting is pretty bad but it helps me to remember new kanji/vocab better. Plus, learning the proper stroke order never hurts. I also started to follow jisho dictionary convention and writing out on’yomi in katakana.
Darn! But I get it. I am definitely going to listen though, because understanding was super exciting haha!
I refuse
Yeah! It definitely feels really good. Looking at my podcast app now I’ve listened to the first 25 episodes and I can only think of two (one on family and one on visiting an onsen I think) where I was just completely lost - so pretty decent all in all.
Definitely! I have so been slacking on hand writing - I’m even forgetting katakana and hiragana despite typing in both daily (so recognition is fine, just not production). I’ve just started writing down new words + readings when I’m reading (and stopping when I get to ten for one day haha) to try to get more practice! Don’t really have the time just now to focus on it properly though.
Oh, and just to throw another (more background) listening suggestion out there - I’ve really liked this let’s play of Zelda BOTW - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNzqhxMtnjztPMdG_WGjoNGvYe0HUhQOk
Again I don’t actively listen or study it, but just enjoy the bits and pieces that I can pick up from it. I do know that it helped me a lot in learning the reading for 宝 though which would never stick with me on WK and then I had this on in the background while she was going through a shrine and kept saying it hahahah.
I love that he just keeps on talking and without switching to English. I’m actually listening without translating in my head, which feels pretty good
Do the episodes get harder/build upon each other?
Never even heard of that one before, maybe I’ll start listening to bedtime stories before sleeping ! c:
hi! just added myself
