Slow and steady.
I’m proud that I technically never missed a day of study (even if it was just doing one review to keep my streak going)!
In hindsight I probably did not use Wanikani as efficiently as I could have but I tried to blend kanji practice with grammar, speaking and reading comprehension so I have no regrets. I’ve passed the N4 and N5 and will take the N3 this year and feel very confident with N3 kanji and reading thanks to Wanikani.
Special shoutouts to the free Tsurukame iOS app. I started using the app in the level 30s (I think) and it was a nice alternative to the website (so fast!). I’d also like to shoutout Bunpro for grammar SRS and my native Japanese teacher in Massachusetts who I do weekly virtual classes with https://northshorejapanese.com/ For general listening practice, I like https://m.youtube.com/@akane-japaneseclass - she has podcasts on Spotify, videos on YouTube and additional materials if you support her on Patreon.
Looking forward to burning everything and continuing to engage with native material. Currently reading ゆらぎ荘の幽奈さん which is fun. Highly recommend using bookwalker.jp to purchase and read manga - you can use a US PayPal account to buy manga (a miracle if you’ve ever tried to buy stuff on a Japanese website with a US address/card) and the reading app is pretty good!
If you are reading this and just getting started, I promise you, every review gets you closer and closer to your goals. Don’t feel intimidated or discouraged when comparing yourselves to others, just by visiting Wanikani, you’re way ahead of most who want to learn Japanese!
頑張ってください!
