Let’s climb Tokyo Skytree - level 60 in autumn 2023

WaniKani is a tough way to do it. It’s set up for you but also rigorous.

Don’t give up even if WaniKani is not the best for you. Slow and Steady when it doubt!

Don’t give up on life though. Did you found a routine that would work?
At risk of repeating myself, I found that a (low) fixed set of lessons works pretty well for me, even when motivation is at bottom.

It’s funny, after years of experimenting it seems that trying a small set of fixed reviews daily does more harm than good to my progress. I seem to do better throwing myself into it and making it a fixture of my day (and life). This time around, I’m combining it with a lot of reading on Lingq and gradually involving it more in my daily life. Looking back, the overarching obstacles seem to have (a) life events and (b) loss of sense of value in the project. But I think I’ve reached a point in my life where commitment is possible, so it’ll be interesting to see how it develops. That’s part of the reason for the reset on this occasion - start fresh and move forward.

Hooray, I made it to Level 40! Once I surpass 51 I’ll be farther than I’ve ever gotten in WaniKani

I purposefully doing a 150 day sprint which now that I say that sounds crazy. but basically to be at 50 before N2 in Dec I’m doing 20 a day. Which isn’t recommended… So I wouldn’t try to keep up…

I always do lessons in batches, not a certain number per day, but a rarely do more than 50 in a day. I’m doing around 7-8 days per level depending mostly on if level up or second batch lessons are during a weekend or a weekday. I can’t do reviews at my new workplace, so that has affected things a bit. :slight_smile: Since I don’t have any personal deadlines or goals set, I’m speeding up or slowing down as I feel like on any giving day.

I still haven’t decided how I’ll handle the fast levels, as I think the current pace of 7-8 days per level is pretty neat. Then again, knowing me, I might going fast just because I can? ^^;

That’s the struggle! I think I’m gonna do the levels fast until Dec so that I have practiced as many kanji as possible before JLPT and the I do my back log of vocab, and then continue you doing the levels pretty much in order because I just feel like I learn better doing vocab sooner after kanji then later.

I started over after some years of hiatus. Won’t make it in 2023 though :stuck_out_tongue:
Is there a 2024 thread?

We should make this thread timeless. :slight_smile:

Ugh! I was hoping to beat you into 41, but you caught me one day while I was still 40. Well see if you can get to 41 before I leave…

Leveled up to 41 incase that was hard to understand. I’m almost to a fast level so that will be cheating lol…
