I can see what you mean. My thought was more along the line of if it was someone that we already interacted with on here it would be like your neighbor telling you about something versus a random dude knocking on your door.

The thing is, I don’t want to pretend to be a wanikani user (when it was released I was already “beyond” joyo kanji) but I do want to provide a third-party integration so feedbacks from real users will be greatly appreciated.
There are people here who just use the forums and discuss studying Japanese without using the application, so I don’t think anyone demands that you actually do lessons and stuff. But something that looked a bit less like an ad would have been more warmly received probably.
Thanks for clarifying the integration. The original post made it look more like an ad for a paid app that was irrelevant to WaniKani, but it looks like you’ve updated it. As long as you’re just sticking to this one thread and not spamming it everywhere on the forum, we’re fine with it, especially now that we see why it’s in this Third-Party Apps category

This sounds really nice! Any idea of when the beta will be ready? Will you share a Testflight link here?
In terms of features I would like, it’s hard to say without trying it first to see how it integrates to my learning style, but I’m hoping full sentences can be exported to SRS. In fact the more information that can be exported per item, the better.
Also, it sounds like you probably already have this covered, but it would nice to be able to quickly identify the Joyo and N1 kanji not covered by WK. Maybe also a way to filter out non-WK vocab and export for study?

I’m hoping before the end of the summer. I’m struggling to enroll in Apple’s developer program, it has been a painful experience so far 
WK’s API is huge, I’m still trying to figure out which features could integrate nicely with the rest of my app.
The “not covered” filter, that’s interesting, actually my search system cannot handle the “not”, you can search “both in joyo and WK” but not “in joyo but not in WK”. Shouldn’t be too hard to support. Thanks for the suggestion
Ah, I see. That could be difficult without the “not”. It’s probably not too hard to filter that externally and just update from a list, although WK could add some of those kanji eventually, creating extra work. I’d also love to able to to identify and study non-Joyo kanji that are still commonly used. I think there is a name for those, but i’m not remebering at the moment.
Depends on your definition of “commonly” I reckon that even not all joyo are common. There is another official list of about 800 kanji though: 人名用 jinmeiyo. They can be used in names, I think it was built more as a legal matter to decide what kanji can be used when you register your name. There’s also what’s called 旧字体 kyujitai, which are the ancient form of kanji (before Japan and China made their own simplified characters around 1940), like 国 vs 國, you see them sometimes on shop names and handwritten menus (and if you go to Taiwan). Some are already in the joyo or jinmeiyo lists. If you follow kanji kentei exam then after joyo you’re supposed to know jinmeiyo. Good luck
