Kaniwani Major Update: 1.3.4!

  • Adds the ability to only review items you have previously burned in Wanikani!
Thanks, that's what I needed the most!

And I'm sure it's been asked but a "speed mode" would be awesome, such as:
- when correct, it shows the kanjis for X seconds and then, automatically goes to the next question
- when wrong, it automatically shows the kanji and the phonetic (and pressing enter will go on to the next question)

I have 622 reviews (in "only burnt" mode) and I'm making so many errors (more than 75%...) that I need a speed mode to use Kaniwani.

Thanks anyway, it's a great thing you've done!

but there is a "speed mode" already, see these two checkboxes in the settings:
* Automatically advance to next item in review if answer was correct.
* Automatically show kanji and kana if you answer incorrectly.

Here’s a little glitch I guess.

Just making doubly sure you remember it for next time :stuck_out_tongue:

(I’ll look into it!)

It's coming! Shoot me an email and I can set your password to whatever you like. tadgh@cs.toronto.edu

Sick of the plain jane blue background? Me too!
We now have a nicer blue with sakura to motivate you better (or at least make you feel less stabby).

In the future you’ll be able to unlock new bgs - perhaps even upload your own - since we all stare at that review countdown too much.
Full credit to hrn1996 for the styling idea - and upcoming art additions to make the experience easier on your eyes!

Future options will probably be along the lines of…

I really like the new backgrounds

This might have been asked before, but as long as you don’t yet have the function to self appoint synonyms implemented, could you give us a “ignore reply” button or something.
I love this site, but sometimes when I get like 30 synonyms in a row close to being burned and I get them all “wrong” by using a synonym and everything drops back to guru, it feels just really really unfair

I have no idea why this is yellow, but it happened when I tried to type in frenchman as well. I eventually gave up and smashed in keys until it told me what it expected (which was exactly what I typed.)

I eventually gave up with American as well (took a long time to get it to red out, I had to just type garbage for awhile) and it told me it expected:

アメリカじん

It has issues with katakana right now. Just type あめりかじん or ふらんすじん.

I'm really close to adding this, we just have a long list of different things people want and things to fix that we're working through.
The ignore button is pretty much #1 right now.

Are you typing english/romaji input? Or actually typing in hiragana/katakana?

The site really only accepts English - yellow effectively means “could not convert input to hiragana” (so it appears when you enter something like ‘アメg’ and stops you from getting it incorrect). You can enter hiragana, but that’s because it converts to hiragana correctly (since it just passes through). But we expect English input for now (and convert it) - so enter anything other than english at your own peril!

I’ve recently done some of these ‘katakana’ ones fine (typing in ‘amerikajinn’).
Let me know what your exact keyboard input would have been and I’ll check into it.

In the future we’ll allow Kanji/Kana input instead of English directly (most likely a settings toggle of choose Japanese / English answer input ) - but I need to test all the answer checking first before we release the option.

A feature request if I may: it would be awesome, the api url that fetches the vocab items could be counfigurable, I’d love to provide my own set of words.

I was inputting katakana. It’s how I do it for every other site so I wasn’t really thinking about it. Just habit.

I have my own word list compiled from Jisho I would like to import as well – so we're motivated for it. Custom user vocab cards/items (manually entered on KW site) are on the roadmap, but we have some other things to finish first. Keep yourself a list, and in the future you'll be able to add them. If they're in the right format we could set up an import.

I made this a little while ago to help with compiling my list as I look up words: https://github.com/DJTB/jisho2json
Click jisho entry -> then ctrl/cmd + v paste into text file

Hopefully I can convince tadgh to set up an api endpoint that will accept user api key + data to create a new vocab entry for your KW account.
That way I could modify the extension so you click on jisho entry -> sends & creates new KW vocab item automagically!

We’ll likely set it up to accept json with set Kanji, Hiragana, Meaning fields at the least. Maybe tags / sentences too – I was just including them for refrence/completeness in my list. This won’t be for a little while though – we want to add the ignore answer button, custom accepted answer synonyms, japanese IME input etc first.

Hey, i was wondering if you guys would consider adding “ignore answer” feature?
