Hi all, long-time lurker here making my very first post! Today I picked up my unread copy of 時をかける少女 and found myself dumbfounded for what is probably the stupidest reason on the very first page.
“ゴミはわたしが捨ててくれる”
I thought speakers could not be the “giver” in a くれる sentence? This has been hammered home to me in both college and every textbook I’ve picked up and I’m totally cool with the idea of there being exceptions to the rules but I can’t find any resources that really say otherwise, which is the thing that is actually frustrating to me 
If anyone could cite further examples or resources or even explain why くれる is being used this way I would be eternally grateful
