Just hit level 60 after 8 years

Congrats @BasiltheBatLord! You beat my slow journey of 6 years 3 months (and I see there are several others here that are also still building on that streak)! Progress is progress. Enjoy the level 60 life!

Just want to pipe up here in solidarity on this point. I too started in 2015, did one reset at level 15 or so and am still on level 27. It’s going to be several more years for me and that’s just fine.

I think humans naturally want to rush things (I’m guilty of that too) but the time is going to pass anyway, so if chipping away at a new skill a little every day means I’ll reach my goal in 8 years vs having made no progress because I was worried about speed… I think it’s obvious which is best!

Thank you for reminding me it’s not a race  I took time off before level 4 and I always beat myself up about it, but I’m here now making progress, and isn’t that better than none at all?

Indeed, it can take time to burn all the items. For me, It took almost 4 years to reach level 60 but 2 years and 9 month to burn everything on 28/06/2023, except there are now 70 new lessons that are still in my queue review… I use the App version 1.2.7 ( still working almost correctly) to finish my reviews in order to be more flexible about mistakes…

Congratulations! There is no right or wrong timeline. You set out to complete this and you did! Amazing!

Thank you for this very inspiring post! I just reached level 12 after 200+ days (every day, no breaks – finally going to pause for a few days!).

It’s reassuring to know that just because I’m working more slowly than average, I’m still working and learning every day.

congrats!!!

I am almost there, 2,5 years here.

Congrats! This is incredibly reassuring to read.

I’ve been learning Japanese for probably about a year and a half now if I’m counting from the day I first started learning hiragana and katakana. I seen a post today about someone who hit 60 in a year and thought I was dumb for taking so long. I do the same method of making sure my reviews don’t get too high and I don’t get overwhelmed by having my apprentice section low.

Are you planning on taking the N1?

Maybe eventually but not anytime soon. My goal for years was to pass N2 for hiring purposes and I’ve had my job for a while now so I see no immediate need for N1.

Have also heard from friends that N1 is much, much harder than N2. To the point where it’s even difficult for natives in places.

おめでとうございます!! This seriously gives me hope! I started WK during the pandemic and I’m still finishing Level 8 lol. Thank you so much for keeping at it, and congratulations once again!

Congratulations! It’s really nice to see a post like this with someone finishing Wanikani after this amount of time, considering I mostly see these pop up with people saying it took them a year or two. I started in July last year and am at level 11 now, so seeing all those users finishing in <2yrs I felt like I must be SUPER slow. But I guess there’s just the slower ones like me or @ImpactFrames, and I agree with them that it’s reassuring to see that slower learners can get to “the Wanikani finish-line” as well! :rabbit: :dash:
