Ah, I should’ve expected something like that lol, not sure if you mean the poll thread, but I regularly write in German there
Also, no worries about creeping
Ok that’s a great way to think about it, I’m actually kind of a nerd about tests/exams and get some excitement about being evaluated/seeing where I’m at so I’ll probably go for it in December!
I also probably should have read the JLPT guide material first as they have a chart that shows about 1/3 of people taking the exam are taking it to see where there ability is and not as a requirement for work/study purposes. So we’re in good company
I’m going to be signing up for the N4 in Summer once slots open up - no reason other than to have some external recognition of my progress so far.
In terms of prep, I’m just going to be continuing reading along with the book clubs here and by myself to boost vocab, and start to add in 20-30 mins per day of grammar study focused on the N4 grammar points.
I’ve already done a couple of mocks and I’m coming out with roughly 50-60% correct so giving a few more months I feel confident about going for N4
Good luck! Are you sure registration hasn’t opened yet where you are? Just asking because both places around here already closed registration for the summer tests.
What’s your current level? Going from possibly N2 to N1 in only 5 extra months sounds like setting yourself up for failure from what I gathered reading up on other people’s experience and official numbers on hours of studying needed to advance from N2 to N1 (for native English speakers).
I agree that it’s a lot and I’m still unsure if it’s even possible for me, but I’m being really careful to frame it as a “let’s see what’s possible” instead of a “I have to do this”. I still have until about July to decide and I know about myself that I enjoy chasing after unreasonable goals much more than working towards something attainable, so at the very least it’s something to keep me motivated
Secondly, my Japanese is pretty much all over the place, with kanji and vocab being my weakest point, and I feel like that’s the area where it’s the easiest to improve by just sitting down and studying.
Thank you for your concern!
She* isn’t, but honestly German or English doesn’t really make a difference lol.
This is why I try to use “they”
I thought you were a “she” at first but changed my mind when I saw you post about studying Latin, considering your user name.
I did N5 last December and got full marks, so this December I’m hoping to skip to N3! My country only does December exams, otherwise I’d definitely go for N4 in July. I’ve done a few N4 practice tests and I’ve been scoring around the 150 mark, so I hope with some serious study I’m not being too ambitious aiming for N3.
Looking forward to reading about everyone’s progress here - I’ve really caught the JLPT bug now!
Yeah go for it! If you’re just taking it for fun, I feel like if you’re already in the easy passing range for N4 and you still have almost a whole year left to prepare, it makes more sense to go for N3.
I really don’t remember I’m sorry I was just reading random posts about whatever, saw you mention Latin, recognised your user name from the ADoIJG thread and remembered it because I took eight years of Latin at school and loved it.
Yeah I think it makes sense too, and like you said it’s just for fun! Plus when I got my N5 results, obviously I was really happy but I was also a little disappointed in myself that I chickened out of N4 when I probably could have passed. So I’d rather aim high and possibly fail this time.
Whaaaat omg you’re right. I’m pretty new to Wanikani and its community but I feel like I’m seeing you everywhere. Maybe it’s cause I was reading your study log? Dunno.
