Is there a way to use the Kana keyboard on IOS without predictive text?

I try to not look at the predictive Kanji but sometimes I do and I consider this cheating. I like to use a native keyboard like the Kana one, is there a way to disable it?

For WaniKani? WaniKani has its own built-in IME, so you just need to type in English.

On Android at least I’m not aware of a way to disable it. They don’t have a ā€œgaijin drilling kanji modeā€ unfortunately.

In the long run I don’t think it matters too much though, I’ve ā€œcheatedā€ all the way to level 60 and I don’t regret it personally.

In my keyboard settings (iPhone) it has a ā€œpredictive textā€ switch, but only for the English keyboard. Kana only has ā€œflick onlyā€ and ā€œsmart fullwidth spaceā€ options.

I swear I’ve used applications in the past that somehow disable it programmatically but I can’t prove it. Like @simias , I find it easy to just not look at it so I wouldn’t always notice if it’s there or not.

But I don’t know of any ā€œuserā€ way to do it and I’m not finding anything in a cursory google/youtube search either.

It does, but it also accepts hiragana from your own IME. When I want to use my phone, I make fewer typos using the flick keyboard, and as a bonus I get flick keyboard practice. (at the cost of having to switch keyboards back and forth from kana to English to enter readings/meanings respectively)

Smouldering Durtles on Android can switch the keyboard automatically using language hints (although eventually I switched the meanings to Anki mode completely).
