Is Extra Study a part of your regiment?

Hi everyone, first post here. I am currently living and working in Japan and have found that I need to be taking WK a lot slower than I was in my home country. There’s a lot going on to say the least.

I was curious if you used Extra Study at all? If so, when and how? Do you do it right before your reviews so it stays fresh? Do you space Extra Study out with your actual reviews?

The forums are a really cool space from what I can tell

I only use extra study once in awhile if I feel that my mistakes were too much and that I need help with retaining the information. Otherwise I stick with the time.

I never used it and would generally recommend you spend the time on studying grammar or reading and watching native material instead.

Welcome to the forums! I used the recent lessons part of the extra study right after I do lessons because some vocabulary I can tell will not stick with me right away. I have a habit of taking too many lessons at once and so I will use the recent lessons tab often after a new batch.

I especially do it after a grueling review session where I forgot newly learned items because of being busy and missing the first and second apprentice review time windows. But this is mostly after realizing via reviews that I did bad. On rare occasions like a vacation mode, I would look at a recent lessons extra study since I took a good bit of time away, and need a refresher to keep my level-up progress in check.

The “problem” with this is that recent lessons only include those you haven’t guru’d yet since unlocking them. If you make many mistakes and knock anything that had originally hit Guru before, back down to apprentice, those won’t show up. The recent mistakes flashcard widget is the one I use for those instead of the Extra Study.

I don’t touch the burned items part of it much because at a current 6,812 amount of burned items I really don’t think my brain could do that. I have tried a little, but it’s just not feasible after a certain amount.

I’m with it but a little bit later on like the later 10 levels. I know in the grand scheme of things that isn’t much further from my current level but I really am taking it slow with WK. My priority is verbal communication and at work, I often hear 方言 so I’m preoccupied with that. My kanji knowledge is dispersed too. Some of it’s N4, things I see regularly in my environment, and WK. I really want a solid foundation with WK before speeding things up. The vocab and kanji I’ve learned thus far from it have really benefitted me out here.

Glad to be here! I like this approach too.
