Introducing Vocabulary

I got the hang of answering for kanji and Wanikani is like: “Now pick which reading we want! Tralolol!”
Oh god! I thought I had the hang of it! I was wrong. I wasn’t ready!

This site is quite enjoyable though.

Yeah, it’s important to remember that the vocabulary are words that can be expressed with kanji, as opposed to being kanji that are haphazardly stuck together and then have readings pulled out of a hat.

You can imagine from the perspective of a Japanese person, who learns tens of thousands of words before they ever learn how to write them in school. The words exist, and then they learn which kanji go with them.

So it feels like the vocabulary is arbitrary, but it’s just because of the way we have to learn as non-natives.
