How's everyone like the new layout?

I love it! Previously, I sometimes queried the API by hand to see how many reviews were coming up and when. Now it’s right there on the homepage.

I adore the review timeline. It keeps me from constantly logging back on to the dashboard to see an update of when I’ll have new reviews, allowing me to plan out when I should logon a little better. I’m also a fan of the big cartoon buttons, but I understand why they’re not for everyone.

Are you using Windows 7? If so, I think this is an issue with it specifically.

I really like it. Big fan of the icon characters.

I really like the new design. The forecast is super useful to me, makes it much easier to plan my day. And the characters are really cute, though the only change I’ll be able to observe for now is the incoming flow of turtles. Though maybe Wanikani adds new items again, and I’ll finally have use of the lessons button, despite being lvl 60

I don’t really need the progress bar anymore (was nice when I leveled up though!), and the apprentice/guru ect. line could be placed higher, but I would rather trade those slight disadvantages for the forecast.

Thank you Wanikani for still improving user experience

Same here! I tried Google Chrome and Firefox on one Macbook Pro running macOS Mojave, and have tried Google Chrome on one running Catalina. Cleared the cache, etc., still not working.

For now I have just been making the window smaller so that it switches into the mobile/tablet layout.

I would like to be able to switch back to the classic layout with a button

I love it. It will be helpful for me to know how to strategize doing new lessons without overburdening myself with a mountain of reviews. I’m excited about this change!

I think it’s awesome. The big and colorful buttons gives a friendly look and the forecast does the job of ultimate timeline but much more visually appealing and quicker to read.

I really like it! It’s nice to see my forecast.

They already said why they won’t do this in the other thread. You can use Ultimate Timeline for graphs, though.

I love the cartoons! I think they’re very cute. I like the way they change depending on the number of lessons/reviews available. The big buttons are charming and the layout looks good on my phone, on a small browser window, and on my huge monitor at work. Good job! :tada:

I do wish that the “Apprentice” “Guru” “Master” etc. elements were clickable buttons. I’d like to see my list of Apprentice-level items with a single click. I also agree that the “review summary” page that appears before starting lessons/reviews doesn’t seem to serve much of a purpose. I like seeing it after a session, but I’m not sure why it’s telling me about my previous review session when I start a new one.

Anyway, good update! Thank you for your hard work, WaniKani!

When you use scripts, you should accept that they might get broken during a WK update. Scripts should work around WK, not the other way around.

That being said, there are ways to get things to almost resemble the previous UI. Just go through a couple of threads

What Operating System are you using?

Windows 10, although now the layout looks correct again on both computers I tested again so I guess whatever the problem was it’s fixed now. :ok_hand:

Yeah. It was fixed just recently.

Short answer: I like it.

A few points from my perspective:

  • On mobile I use Tsurukame so I can’t speak for mobile view (I’ll literally never use it).
  • Working for a software company a few years back I can safely say that people do not like change, even if it’s good.
  • Not everyone uses scripts and therefore I get the benefits of the timeline feature.
  • The bigger buttons for reviews make it obvious where to go - my criticism here is this should have been the norm from when the app was first built! Either way, that’s not a negative change IMO.

Good work guys :metal:

Believe it or not quite few new users got stuck on reviews because they did not see the lesson buttons. This change is most likely in response to making the onboarding process better for people who do not read or prefer to navigate by images rather than words.

There are a lot of features that the Ultimate Timeline had that the inbuilt does not. Namely seeing which reviews you have, what srs level they are and what level they are (great for seeing when you’ll level up).

I do like it. I like the forecast
