How long did it take you until you could fully understand the example sentences?

I went through some of the basic grammar on Tae Kim and then stopped entirely

I did the exact same thing except I used Bunpro and just did lessons without doing any reviews. I then just exposed myself to them through reading and only looking them up as I came across them.

The only things that trip me up now are the Japanese equivalents for a “turn of phrase”, which is what’s taught as grammar from about N3 onwards.
