I was researching for my college options and I found out about EJU.
It’s an entrance exam for foreign students who want to study in japan.
It has exams in Japanese, Science, Maths and Social studies.
Here is the link for anyone who is interested
What I’m specifically asking for is How would you prepare for japanese?
The exam consists of Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.
The syllabus for the exam provides more indepth explanation
This is the past sample question paper from 2016 which can give you an idea about the questions.
Summary of the syllabus
1.Reading
The reading section seems like jlpt n2 level and above. But it’s mostly academic literature like :-
- Explanatory text
- Editorial text
- Practical document/text (regarding studying, campus life, etc.), and others
I’m at a level where I’m still not comfortable with this kind of literature.
I don’t know how to get better at this form of reading. I dont think reading manga will help with this.
2.Listening and Speaking
It is given as Listening and Reading, but I think you might have to give a seminar or a lecture on a given topic or graph.
The examples for this are :-
- Lecture or speech
- Presentation and discussion regarding exercise or survey
- Consultation, instruction and advice about study and life
- Practical conversation, and other
I’m way out of my depth in this one. I’m comfortable with casual conversation and get by my making many mistakes but I dont think it will be useful for this kind of speaking.
3.Writing
This is my elden ring boss. I have no experience with writing other than typing for quartet. I still need to look up a kanji for the stroke order when I write.
I would really appreciate if anybody could give any suggestion or tips on how to improve my japanese in general? or in any of these sections? Anything helps at this point. I would say I have 1 year or 1 and half depending on when I take the exam. If you also have any experience with japanese universities or EJU don’t hesitate to share them.
