I’ve been reading some light horror for the whole of October, but for Halloween I’m thinking I’d like to read something particularly chilling/scary/unsettling. I’m specifically looking for something short, that I could start and finish on the day.
Ideas so far: Anything by Junji Ito. A story out of ZOO. 人間椅子 by Edogawa Ranpo.
Oooh if you end up deciding to do 人間椅子 I might try to join you! It’d be fun to read something spooky for the season, maybe a little impromptu discussion group?
Oh right, I had forgotten about that! I’ll probably leave it for after I read the original though.
Thanks for the recommendation, but I’ll only touch it if I know for certain nothing bad happens to the cats. I can only stomach horror if it happens to humans.
I think there’s an epilogue that talks about how long they lived but it’s daily life with a horror element, so nothing bad happens to the cats as far as I recall. I don’t have access to the copy I own though.
Sounds like a good plan! I wanted to read some Edogawa for some time already
I’m unusually busy on Monday, so I will probably read the majority of it on the 1st (which is Allhallows so it’s still about spirits and stuff , no?), but other than that, count me in!
If there’s already a group who want to read it right now, you could as well make it a mini-bookclub (just one thread ofc) over in the Book Clubs category - then it might be easier to find for people?
