btw I’m also new here (I apparently signed up in 2016 but forgot about wk until a month ago so my account is 9 years old, oops) and I wonder if keeping a public study log here would push me to learn more

honestly I see it as a pretty normal progression. Spent the first two weeks learning hiragana and katakana, then jumped straight into manga while studying grammar alongside. Read ~40 volumes in 2024 and at this point I think anyone would be ready for LNs 
I see a lot of people hesitate and never move on to reading material above their level, so they never force adaptation. If you ask me, that’s what got me here above anything else
