Some (kind of messy) overall thoughts on this volume (spoilers for whole volume)
This volume was overall a really exciting start to a new arc. It was really gripping seeing Geoffreyâs perspective trying to catch up as well as Vicente and Kaitoâs as they got further away. I also really enjoyed finally seeing the interactions between Kaito and Vicente after so many volumes, itâll be interesting to see how that continues to change since Kaito is already starting to become more comfortable with him by the end of this one.
This volume also had the answers to some questions I had before, it seems like the person Shakespeare was referring to helping the Spanish infiltrate was probably Anne, and then thereâs also the reappearance of the Bucca Boo during the storm confirming that there are some supernatural elements as well in this world. Hopefully the information Kaito spilled when talking with Anne doesnât affect the future too much, but regardless it seems like things are steadily changing with the Spanish ships being built differently, taking away one of the advantages that should let England win the war.
If that priest is any sign of whatâs waiting in Spain for Kaito heâs not going to have an easy time. It also seems like Vicente is being a little naive about how much trouble thereâs likely to be for Kaito there and what he can do about it, even with the Queenâs backing in England Kaito almost got executed let alone in Spain where theyâre apparently pretty quick to burn people at the stake.
Nigel and Geoffreyâs falling out felt inevitable but it was still rough to read. At least the last chapter makes it seem like thereâs hope this isnât the end of their friendship as they head back to England to regroup and figure out a plan for infiltrating Spain. They donât have long to plan though since thereâs not long before the sea becomes too stormy to cross and after the seas calm again the war is likely to start.
Sorry if this is all over the place, I really need to start writing my thoughts after every chapter or two
this is defo one of the roughter things to read abou in this volume! I love those two too much to see them fall out. :c But, as you say, they do have a common goal now - and so, thereâs some common ground for sure in that.
Iâm extremely curious how/if these potential supernatural elements play into things. In the canon of this book, is this something unique to this parallel timeline? Are there also Bucca Booâs in Kaitoâs time?
100% agree. I wonder if Vicenteâs still riding that âyay I got Kaitoâ high at this point, haha.
Iâm with you here as well. I gotta say, it did a good job to me to further defining their characters and relationship beyond âbest friendsâ that weâve seen so far. Nigelâs immediate confession to Geoffrey, Geoffrey all but canceling the friendship then and there⌠And then their slow drift back to equilibrium. Good stuff.
Nah, Iâm just glad youâre taking some time to chat with us even a little! I get into the habit of âwell Iâll just read one more chapterâŚâ then look at how much Iâd need to cover here the next day and get intimidated. Thanks for taking the time!
