Everyone’s got their reasons. After learning about Leebo, I’m never judging someones WK level again! :joy:

What/who is Leebo?

Leebo’s a wanikanier that’s been around for ages. He’s mainly active on any language question threads posted on the forum. Also in the short grammar- and short language questions threads.

He’s lv 3, since he’s doing his 3rd (?) round of WK. Anyway, he’s done Kanken and, if I remember right, he’s now doing translation work in games as a pro. Very much a Japanese 仙人! XD

But, there are ever so often dismissive replies to his comments from new users, thinking someone lv 3 can’t really know anything! :joy:

Chapter 1
Starting out with Kaito having another dream of Kazuya. Seems like he’s done with the questioning and back home but the entire situation has taken quite a toll on him and his family. I’m still really curious if these dreams go both ways, it would be great if there’s a Kazuya POV chapter someday.

After that Kaito wakes up and takes Blacky outside who seem alarmed by something in the water. Kaito looks over the edge of the ship where he sees something in the water that to him appears to be the boy from the pirate ship. When Kaito freaks out at this Nigel and Geoffrey rush over and Nigel explains that what he saw is apparently a goblin called a Bucca Boo and they send it off with a coin. In the end though Kaito is still convinced that it’s the ghost of the young boy who died on the pirate ship, haunting him. There haven’t really been any other fantastical elements so far so I’m wondering if Bucca Boos just exist in this alternate world or if this is more similar to sailors in the past thinking they saw mermaids. A mix between the dark ocean, mental fatigue, and possibly a sea creature with some humanlike features.

Chapter 2

We get another glimpse at Geoffey’s more careless side as he decides to pass out some nice wine to the crew, including the members on duty, and gets quite the chewing out from Nigel. Then they discuss the plans for getting in training before the Spanish Armada arrives. Due to storms, after September taking a ship out becomes risky, meaning the time they have to train is limited but also that they have time until the Armada is likely able to arrive.

Chapter 3

After almost three volumes away they’ve finally made it back to Plymouth! It’s really nice seeing everyone on the crew again. Apparently they’ve all gotten up to quite a bit when the main group was gone and are in desperate need of some coin. Kaito manages to convince Ewan to spill the beans on why and it turns out a lot of the crew had a little too much fun on Midsummer’s Eve and have come into the sudden need to get married. I’m really hoping Ewan’s conversation there isn’t a death flag. Then Kaito and Geoffrey split off to go find lodging, with Geoffrey rejecting Nigel’s offer for them to stay at his place. This is the first time they’ve split up in a while so It’s sad seeing Nigel get left behind but there really isn’t any other option right now, considering Geoffrey and Kaito’s plans that would be a really awkward stay…

I’d been doing the same and I’m now realizing that probably isn’t the most likely name for an English sailor to have :joy:

Great summary! Yeah the episode with the Bucca Boo stands out for sure, as this story seems well rooted in realism, though the premise (timeslip) certainly is out of the ordinary. It’s interesting to see Matsuoka-sensei keeping us on our toes with that one! Also, I see you stopped just before Kaito and Jeoffrey finally get some alonetime.

(Ch 1 spoilers)

Remember that Blackie seemed to react to the Bucca Boo as well. :eyes: Makes you wonder what’s up, right? I’m a big fan of sneaking in maybe-fantasy elements into a non-fantasy story (time slip not included, haha), so all the potential here with the Bucca Boo maybe being real is so exciting!

Yeah I was running out of reading time and figured it would be best to cut it off there for now, leave Geoffrey hanging a little longer :joy:

True and the wind suddenly stopping too  It’ll be interesting to see if there are more elements like this in later volumes

I see you finished volume 7, @pyororon! It’s just accidental stalking on Natively, I swear what did you think of the book?

:exploding_head: I really enjoyed it, so much interesting stuff happened this volume, especially that cliffhanger! I knew it was coming to some extent (the covers can really be spoilers) but I can’t wait to see how this is all going to turn out. I can see why everyone went through the next few volumes so quickly.

Some thoughts on those last chapters
Chapters 5-6

Kaito and Geoffrey finally get their alone time and a chance to communicate their feelings more and it seems like now they’re both able to feel more stable in their relationship. Here Kaito also comes to the conclusion that even if he’s able to return back to his own time he wouldn’t be able to leave Geoffrey behind, so no matter what happens he’ll remain in the 16th century. Assuming there is a way to go back technically there’s the option of bringing Geoffrey to the modern day (although that would cause some logistical issues)

Chapter 7

Omg, I thought Lily was quite progressive for a 16th century brothel owner but I did not see that coming :eyes: Turns out Kaito isn’t the only person around who has ended up time(world?) slipping, Lily had a similar experience but around 30 years earlier. It’s nice that Kaito finally has someone who he can open up about everything to, with him having to continue lying to the people he’s closest to that must be a weight off his shoulders. With this we also get more hints about the time slipping phenomenon through similarities between their experiences. I wonder what the significance of the number 9 will be

Chapter 8

Kaito continues his chat with Lily and they come up with the idea for him to go and try and investigate the Hoe before Goeffrey returns, sending along Sam just in case a certain rogue Spaniard gets any ideas. On the way he runs into Nigel and so they end up going together instead, with Kaito giving the excuse that he wants to look for something he dropped. After searching the area with no luck, Kaito ends up falling asleep, and wakes up just when Nigel ends up kissing him, finally realizing that he does not just see him like a brother :flushed: But before they get the time to really discuss this they end up surrounded. Turns out Vincente has been waiting for the festival, knowing that people’s guards will be let down while they celebrate and even working together with Pippo who infiltrated the town as a traveling performer. In the end Kaito ends up captured by Vincente, trading his cooperation for Nigel’s life. I feel so bad for Nigel here he’s got to blame himself for not being able to keep Kaito safe :sob:

And after all that I need to jump into the next volume right away (may or may not have already read the first chapter :joy:)

Ooh I could definitely see that happening. If Kazuya starts researching into the phenomenon it seems like he might be able to figure something out. That would also open up the possibility for Kaito to learn more about it if he continues to see dreams about Kazuya, since his options for looking into it are pretty limited on his side.

Not sure if it’s relevant but it seems like both times that Kaito dreamed about Kazuya were right after a time of extreme mental stress, the first when he was in the clink being tortured and the second after experiencing his first up close battle and having to climb the mast. I could maybe see that playing into the conversation he and Kazuya had at the beginning

Ah yes isekai people and their constant obsession with baths and rice :joy:
