Feeling overwhelmed with my reviews

I didn’t see this posted before, if it has, I’m sorry.

Can I reset them? I have 400+reviews and I don’t want to start any lessons until I’ve mastered my review words but it’s just so much I feel like I want to give up.

Any words of advice besides 頑張る

I’m in that situation right now. I’ve had around 400-500 reviews the last week because of final exams. It happens bro, its no big deal. Just do 200ish reviews a day, no lessons, until it goes back to normal. Or more if you’d like. Don’t reset levels or go on vacation mode.

And most importantly DON’T GIVE UP. This is only a minor part of your overall Japanese learning journey. Don’t get discouraged if you fall a bit behind, its about the big picture not the day to day. There are some that have thousands of reviews and are able to eventually get back on track. 400 reviews might seem like a lot but I promise its not. You could do all 400 today if you wanted over a couple hours. 200, break time, another 200. Back to normal. You got this :goat:

Thank you
I feel galvanized because of your kind words

Seconding what Fishfulness has said -

  • don’t do any more lessons until you’ve reduced your reviews
  • don’t reset or go on vacation mode
  • don’t give up

Some people recommend keeping the number of apprentice items under 100 (so not doing more lessons until they’re under 100).

I’ve also found for trying to clear up the backlog, forcing the reviews to start at lower levels means you’ll be concentrating on the apprentice levels first, helps me a lot. it’s more wrong answers, but I’m working on the ones i need the help with over the ones i know better.

A common study technique is called the Pomodoro. Basically you set a 20-40 minute timer of uninterrupted work then you do 5-40 minutes of reward stuff (aka browse youtube) then repeat. It’s suited to anything where you can’t finish tasks in one go or you just need to chip away at forever. Many successful learners (in language learning or other stuff) end up adopting it sooner or later.

I could do 300 reviews in 30 minutes back in the day, but now I’m washed and have zoomer brainrot so I can only do like 50 at a time. You get better at it over time.

That’s good advice, I only recently started doing that and I like it a lot. I like having the harder items (the ones I’m more likely to get wrong) come first

It has this very neat affect that once I get through the hard stuff, it gets easier, so there’s this actual feeling of growth, getting through it.

And once I’m back to daily reviews, I put back the randomizer.
