I know this might mess with how WK works a bit, but now that we have the option to pick which of our unlocked lessons to do in advance, it would be cool if we could have the ability to unlock a specific kanji earlier as well. Sometimes there’s a kanji that I’m coming across in vocabulary elsewhere but it’s not scheduled to unlock for several more levels on WK. Vocabulary sticks for me so much better when I know the kanji that make it up, so my best solution for now it to make my own flashcards, but I think for lots of people who are a little further down the road of studying Japanese it could be helpful to be able to look something up on WK, see it’s coming in the future, and unlock it to fold it into our study here.
Even better if we could see the tree of what that kanji builds on so we could go backwards and maybe also unlock the radicals that lead to it that we haven’t gotten to yet.
I think this could make WK much more useful at the higher levels. For me right now I’ve mostly put WK on the back burner, keeping up with my reviews and not advancing much further for now, because if the kanji I’m up to aren’t one’s I’m going to be seeing regularly, they don’t add much value for me at the moment, and I’m better of studying what I’m regularly encountering (and figuring that when I get to a higher level of reading I’ll come back to WK more). But I think this one feature would make it infinitely more valuable at the higher levels.
Agree with this. I would like to be able to add certain kanji and vocabulary to my review list because they are common or something I’d use often - e.g. 添 - kanji for append and 添付 vocabulary for attachment. They are more useful than the 2 ways of saying werewolf or sugar sculpture (when will I ever use that?). I understand that it’s the level of radicals that I’ve learned that build up to the kanji and vocabulary. But can I at least be able to add my own kanji and vocabulary?
For vocab/kanji that aren’t part of WK the easiest thing would be to just make your own anki deck I would think. I’ve got my own deck for words I’ve come across and that works fine. I’m more talking about stuff that we are going to be encountering in WK eventually. It would be nice to just be able to activate them early rather than have to run them in two places

I saw your reply to tiedie in the thread below. Can we have the option to unlock items out of sequence? Also, can 現金 be added in the vocabulary?
Hey! In case there’s any confusion, I can’t make these things happen. I just pass on ideas that I think make good feature requests to the content/engineering team. As for adding 現金 as a vocabulary, I’ll definitely pass that along. Seems like a useful one to know! But for unlocking things out of sequence, that’s more of a major change to how WaniKani works overall, so I won’t pass that one along. Not because it’s not a good idea, but that involves a higher level of planning which “the team” team has to decide on.
