Fast levels

that depends on which accuracy score you take. if it’s the accuracy at the end of a review session, it’s decent. if it’s the accuracy shown at the top right while taking reviews, it’s not that good. if it’s the accuracy shown on wkstats, also not that good. in my opinion ^^

Definitely this. It’s all oysters and foie gras until they come back at you with a vengeance.

Swap some for listening. All that grammar won’t make you understand the language by itself.

I think of WK as more of a supplement to learning Japanese. It mostly just teaches you to read Japanese, not the language itself. It shouldn’t be the main thing.

It may be 2x the time but it’s going to take 4x the effort.

I agree with @whinette

See how difficult the workload is for you as those burn waves start coming through.

Yeah, Tofugu actually puts this advice in their blog. I don’t know what I think of it… It seems fine for those who just want to leisurely take their time when learning. However, there is no reason why you cannot jump straight into it. Especially for those who are in a rush for exam reasons, in that situation, such advice can actually prove detrimental…

So you’re suggesting that they just dilute the current content to create faster levels earlier on? Or add new content?

Addressing the former, I see no sense in this. You’re learning the same stuff either way after all :person_shrugging:.

Regarding the latter, I think we’d all like more content, but you’d have to bring that up with the WK team .

If nothing else, you sound very disciplined; that will serve you in good stead in throughout your learning.

… why is everyone against fast levels? I would have loved having every level being a fast level. People don’t have to do them fast, but it gives more flexibility. As it is, I felt like WK was too damn slow™.

Indeed, you don’t need to do them fast if you dont want to.

Everyone loves to brag

You don’t need to change the content. Just arrange it differently. Just make some levels have kanji that doesn’t need the radicals learned on the same level. So just move a few kanji/radicals from one level to an another.

Yo, you wanted to talk after I got to burns. Now I think I’m 7 weeks into my burns. But I think quite a bit has changed for me since I created this topic. I think I was frustrated because I felt that I couldn’t progress fast enough. I think that was because before making the post I had been spending so many hours every day learning how to write kanjis and the stroke orders. And then learning new kanjis became much easier and I didn’t really need to spend that much time learning stroke order and writing. So I was spending much less time on it than before. Thus I felt like it was too easy.

Well, after creating the post I went on to learn both Genki books and Tae Kims guide. So I no longer felt like the WK levels were too slow, because it wasn’t my sole focus anymore. And now after I have been immersing in anime for about a month. I really spend less than 1/6 of my study time on WK. And I have learned about 500 kanjis outside of WK. I did think about quitting WK as well couple levels before (of course right after seeing 河豚) because I felt like I didn’t really need it anymore. But I decided not to, because it is just extra reinforcement.

I think WK is great for understanding kanjis and learning how to learn them. In the beginning it gives you a path to follow when you are very lost and have no clue. But after a point it really becomes secondary.

But now when I get to fast levels I think it wont even feel like much, because at that point I should already know all joyo kanji, with learning 25 every day.

So back to the original topic of having more fast levels. I frankly don’t think they are needed. Like many here were saying, kanjis is just a small part of learning Japanese. So there is always more to learn while you wait for the next kanjis. And at some point if you really want to advance faster you can, you don’t need WK anymore.

If you go at my pace there are no fast levels :turtle:
