Hi there, I’ve just noticed that 近々reading has changed from きんきん to ちかぢか completely out of the blue, without any correction or notification for the user that hey, the previous one is no longer acceptable because of XYZ, here’s the new version.
I talked with my colleague who’s also studying on Wani and he also said that WaniKani changes meanings sometimes without any warning…
I think that this approach doesn’t make sense at this point - if I want to learn the correct meaning, I believe that what WaniKani provides is correct and usable - and if not, I expect to be informed about the changes to adjust what I remembered. Alternatively, if the reading is still correct for some cases, I’d like it to be acceptable when provided. I think leaving it without any comment is the worst approach here - at this point I have no idea if one of my “burned” items were not changed like this, which makes me confused. It builds a lack of confidence and trust in what the page provides.
Let me know your thoughts and if you’ve experienced such things on your way
It was a while since I learned 近々 and even then the reading was ちかぢか
But it happens that sometimes the accepted meaning changes but this is as far as I know always communicated in the Forums.
And here I am not sure but I think when I encountered a word where the accepted meaning changed I think I got a wiggle and a pop up saying that the meaning changed. Please correct me if I am misremembering.
Yes they do this quite a bit, and it’s annoying. I just type gibberish, look at the new meaning or reading, undo, and retype with the new answer. It’s faster than opening a new tab and looking up the item on WK, and really what else are we supposed to do. We’re not mind readers so we can’t know what the new answer is if they never tell us.
The problem is how are we supposed to know what they changed it to if they don’t tell us to begin with.

Oh yeah, that’s a bit annoying. My answer was more to the complaint that he said he doesn’t get a notification that the answer is no longer acceptable:

I think what happens is that they make changes on the go and once in a while release post with a summary for them. I actually think I saw this specific change mentioned in one of them. It is good practice to keep an eye open for those update posts.
In many cases multiple readings are correct, and WK may accept only one, which is a perfect opportunity to use double-check script to enter the correct answer if you are 100% convinced that you remember it.
