Does anyone know any good free websites or apps for conversation practice? I’m a year 12 student studying Japanese at school but we don’t do much talking in Japanese in class and I think that would be really helpful for me. There are only 3 others in my class and I don’t really know them so don’t really want to ask them about doing some more practice… I also have anxiety so talking to people kinda scares me sometimes so some kind of written conversation like a chat or something would be great. I know there are a few AI ones but I don’t know if they’re any good, and I also haven’t been able to find a free one. I don’t have a job so I don’t have the money to pay for anything like that
If anyone has any recommendations they would be greatly appreciated!

You could try joining Discord servers and talking to people in voice chat, or through worlds in VR chat.
There’s also italki which is a paid platform where you can find tutors for conversation practice. You can also look online to see if there are any cultural or language exchange events in your area, or places to work at or volunteer where you can practice Japanese. I don’t know about your area, but I used to live in a major city that had Japanese import stores and bookstores.

Discord is one of the platforms to talk in Japanese well i’m thinking of making a server for that.

You could try Speaky. It’s an app/website where you can match with someone with your native/target language (e.g. if your native language is English you might find a Japanese person who wants to learn English), and you can help each other out in language learning, practicing each others languages.
It’s been a while since I’ve used it though, so I’m not sure how active the userbase currently is.

There’s a couple language exchange discord servers for Japanese and English. It’ll look like no one is active but people just wait for someone to jump in a channel and people will come and talk.
